GOSSIP FROM KENTUCKY SOURCES. Louisville. Kv.. July 10.— Among the recent arrivals at Churchill Downs was La f Mexican. L. Kellys 1910 winner of the Bashford Manor Stakes. Which came Willi the string of G. W. J. Bissell. in charge of Wayne Lewis. The latter lias a string Of seven at Churchill Downs. Including the fleet lilly. Mettle Bereaud. and the two-year-olds. Scarlet Pimpernel and Southern Light. All the horses in this carload kipped well. Li P Mexican needs a rest, having been constantly in training since he was taken up as a yearling, but he only gets a respite of a few weaka* as he will race again the coming fall. Mr. Kellv will not likely race the speedy son of Mexican atanv of the winter tracks, reserving him for his three-year-old engagements, chief of which is the Kentucky Derby of 1011. Trainer Lewis probably will soon take up several yearling., mostly lillies. that Mr. Bissell owns and which are now manias oat at II. P. Whitney. La Belle Farm, near Lexington. They are all out of mare, owned by Mr. Bissell, and they are by his horse. Maddalo. a son of Prince Fonso. Word came to Douglas Park yesterday that Hugh McCarren had decided to ship three of his stable to Windsor and let the balance rest at Latonia until late in August or early in September, when he will ship liis whole string here. The trio he took to Canada are Camel. Grand Peggv and Brass Button, the latter being a two-year-old by Adam that he purchased recently from E. R. Bradley. Ix-e Christy has decided lo rest up for a while at Latonia before shipping, to either of the Louisville tracks, with Star Venus. Mrs. Bewail and the other. In the string or W. A. Hughes. Stall room has been net aside for him at Churchill Downs, however.. He had to tire Mrs. BJbwall for a hawed tendon, and Star Venus 1ms been a bit off since he got her back. W. S. Hopkins has his horses in his old tpiarters at Churchill Downs, with the exception of the promising two-year -old, Volthorpe. which he sent to Wal-deck Farm to he turned out. The half-brother to The Picket in sound in wind and limb and in the pink of health, but his owner, D. Meschendorf. [bought a rest would benefit him. Volthorpe is in the Kentucky Derby of 1011. and Mr. Meschendorf would rather win the Kentucky Derby than a dozen two-year-old races the coming fall with Volthorpe. so it may be that the eolt will not again he seen under color, until 1011 rolls around.
