SARANAC NOT TRULY RUN MARTINEZ. THE WINNER. FIGURES IN MIX-UP WITH OTHER CONTENDERS. Foul Claimed, but Disallowed by Stewards — Han-bridge and Ocean Bound Win Races Run in Fastest Times of the Saratoga Meeting. Saratoga. X. Y., August IS. — It was a good day of racing that was provided tiy the Saratoga Association tliis afternoon, with the teniae Handicap and the Troy Selling Stakes, the latter for two-year-olds, as the stake features. The weather was cloudy and threatening, hut there was no rain and the track was faster than at any time since the opening of the sessoo and the attendance was ot excellent proportions. The sport was mailed somewhat hy accidents in the steeplechase. Prolusion belted witli jockey Sullivan and. before he could Ik1 controlled, he had crashed into the track fenee, hreaking the riders leg. Sain Hall fell at the front tield Liwrnonl on the last turn of the course and jockey Kermath received a nasty tumble. It was reported by Dr. Marls rity. the track physician, that he was suffering from concussion and he was hurried to the hospital. Later lie was said to he progressing nicely jind no other serious injury was discovered. The running of the Saranac Handicap saw some humping in the stretch and the hackers of Martinez, the winner, had some uncomfortable moments before Hie placings were confirmed. S. C. Hildreth had scratched Dalmatian, the top weight, and Hampton Court was his representative. The only other one to decline «a Bishop, leaving a held of six to race. Starliottle. showing much more early speed than in his previous races, was tin one to cut out the pace and jockey Dngsn permitted him to go along in a long lead to the head of the stretch. There the others closed on him, Love tie ami Martinez looming up dangerously. Martinez made his run on the outside and as he crossed to the rail it appeared that he crowded I.ovetie against Starliottle. AfteT this mix-up Martinez came away to win easily hy live lengths and the manner in which he finished left no doubt id his being best in the field. Dugau lodged a complaint of foul on behalf of Star-huttle and Scoville made a like claim on behalf of Mrs. Livingstons colt. There was a lengthy wait bejeea it was tiimlly decided that Martinez had not oifercd sufficient interference to warrant his being disqualified. Woodford days good tilly. Ocean Bonnd, was winner of the mile handicap at the end of the program. She romped home eight lengths before her company in 1 :3S, another very fast race. Field Mouse was one in this field that was unfortunate, being put on the fenee by the winner shortly after the start. Dugan. who rode, had intended making a claim of foul, but when he whs weighed est the stewards had left the statu! and the winner was continued in her position. John Sanfords Hockville proved himself a good ope when he won from numerous op|x sition after lieing away badly, and old Jimmy Lane was winner of the Steeplechase all the way. Jockey Shilling was sus|iendeil for five days by stllHer fassidy lor misbehavior at the post on Ocean Bouud in the last race.
