FITZ HERBERT HURTS A FOOT. Saratoga. N. Y., August 2li.— S. C. Hildretb announced yesterday that he would not start Fitz Berber! In the Saratoga Cap Saturday. Hta Herbert bruised a foot the other day when he worked half a mile through the stretch between races and Mr. Hildretb has let up on him. It is possible. Mr. Hildretb Bay*, that V. Vivian b, the English sportsman who purchased Dalmatian for l.ouis Winans. may also buy Fits Herbert. Mr. Gooeh came near bat J lilt Iitz Herbert the other day. The marks of .i tiring iron on one of his ankles were all that deterred him. Mr. Gooeh did not understand those sears. Iitz Herbert lias been lame twice since Mr. Hildretb took him in charge in 1908. lie hurt himself just before the running of the Htturity which feH to Maskette. .and had to remain in the stable, and he bruised a foot here the other day. But Mr. BDdreth did not have Fitz tired. The aaara Mr. QoocB saw the other day date back to the time Fits Herbert was a yearling. Jack Joyncr had him tired because one of his ankles was weak. iitz Herbert has proves one of the bardleat campaigner* thai ever raced on this side of the Atlantic. Be has packed all kinds of weight ami beaten tirst- lass horses at all distances. Mr. iooch concedes that a barer f bi size, conformation, sweet dlaposi-tlon and ability to run swiftly and far would be invaluable in cup races in Great Britain. If Mr. Gooeh does not purchase Iitz Herbert. Mr. Bildretb will prepare btm for the |10,000 Dominion Handicap, to be run at 1oit Brie in October. If Fitz Herbert comes -afely out of the Dominion Handicap, it is likely that Mr. Hildretb will train him for the Bowie Cup. Tiie Bowie is a two-mile race, run at PiniUen in the fall. Kits Herbert won hvst years Bowie in 3:251. the host time on record in this ooamtry for two miles.
