SANFORD COLORS ARE FIRST DAN0SCARA SCORES IN THE HANDICAP FEATURE OF SARATOGA CARD. Hampton Court Runs Disappointingly and Finishes Second to Big Stick — Old Jimmy Lane Breaks Record for Number of Victories Over Jumps. Saratoga, N. Y., August 30. — For the last day but one of racing over the course of the Saratoga Association a program of overnight, races was furnished, and while three of the six public choices were first at the finish, there were some decided surprises that came in the running a4T of the card. One of the most marked upsets was the winning of Whin at l." to 1. and another was the disappointing race run by Hampton Court when he was easily disposed of by the selling plater. Big Stick. It was another bright day, I lie track was at its liest and the attendance large. Many New Yorkers, who came for the running of the Futurity tomorrow, appeared 011 the scene and there will be more accessions tonight and tomorrow morning. The handicap of the day was over the mile and an eighth distance and it went to John Sanfords good inare Panoscara. though she had to be smartly ridden out to beat home Bob R.. which colt was at his best. BBdreth scratched his top weight. Firestone, and pinned his faith to Woodcraft, the latter being in under ninety-nine pounds. Woodcraft ran a wonderfully good race and it is altogether likely that with a stronger rider than Thomas In the saddle he would have been the one to crowd the winner at the finish. All through the early stages he was a distant trailer ami through the stretch he closed an immense gap to lie third. Danoscara beat Bob R. only three parts of a length, while Rob R. in turn was onlv a half length before Woodcraft When old Jimmy Lane cantered in front of O. K. all the way to win the full course steeplechase, it marked his twenty-seventh victory through the field. This is said to represent an American record, as Onward, winner of twenty-six races, is credited with having previously held the record. Thomas Hitchcock, Jr.s good tilly. Savannah, was winner of the five and a half-furlongs dash for maidens, though right at the end she was straight to beat Zillah. There were six that went to tho post and Lady Rosalie created a sensation on the way to the post by her efforts to buck jockey Dugan from her back. She was the cause of some delay, but when she was off she sli"ved plenty of sliced to the last eighth, where she faltered and was beaten for third money by Royal Lodge. Katie, another starter that was backed at a long price, ran out at the first turn and was pulled up by Jockey Grand. After the race for two-year-old selling platers that was won by Whin. Richard F. Carman claimed Aldlvia, which had finished second, from J. A. Bonnet for t40. Hamilton Court, which gave Countless such a good rAee in the Huron Handicap, looked to lx one of the sure winners of the afternoon, but he was welt beaten from start to finish by Big Stick. E. DugUU, who rode the HBdretb colt, held him close enough up all through the race, but in the stretch he failed utterly to respond to a drive, though easily saving second money. Jockey Class was fined 00 for misbehavior at the post in the third race, in which he had the mount on Heretic. Had it not been that ho was engaged to ride Sweepaway in the Futurity tomorrow it is probable that he would have been suspended, the usual punishment that Is handed out for his offense. It is announced that the Marlboro. Md.. meeting will be held with the sanction of the Jockey Club from October 4 to 14. These dates immediately precede those for the Pimlico meeting, which is scheduled for October 15 to 31.
