HILDHETH SADDLES TRIO OF WINNERS Western Horseman Strikes His Stride as Pimlico Meeting1 Nears Its Close Coup on Grenida Baltimore Mil October 2 Today was the last day but one of the present season of racing in Bal ¬ timore and a recordbreaking crowd turned out at Pimlico to witness the sport Tiie Maryland Jockey Club provided a splendid program Well liacked horses won a majority of the purses and in several races close finishes were seen S C Uil drcth whose success here has been none too marked cleaned up handsomely this aftornoon over the vic ¬ tories of Montgomery Shannon and Restigonclie Montgomery proved the easiest sort of a winner In the Jockey Club purse and incidentally equalled a track record Restigouclie made a runaway affair of the Arlington purse He set a terrific pace in tie early stages and after racing Cohort into submission in the first half bad plenty iu reserve when Chilton Queen and Guy Fisher challenged in the stretch Shannon ran in the name of J M Shilling father of the jockey under contract to Mr Hildreth It was supposed that Hildreth Iwught the horse for himself the other day but it turns out tliat lie was acting for jockey Shillings father Mr Hildreth backed these three horses with great confidence and won handsomely handsomelyH H B Duryeas odors were seen in front for the first time at the meeting when his Irish Lad colt Belfast beat tue wellbacked Dr Dnenner a nose in the mile nice for twoyearolds Dr Dnenner was best and would certainly have won with a more ener ¬ getic finisher than S Ifcivis in the saddle The hitters effort at the end was lamentably weak weakThe The victory of The Welkin in the Green Spring Valley Steeplechase proved the undoing of jockey Buster Davidson In her previous effort when Tho Welkin showed a i oor performance Davidsons efforts were weak After the mares easy victory tlds afternoon there came a ruling that brought sus lionsioii to the rider and his case was referred to the Xational Steeplechase and Hunt Association AssociationJ J P Mayliorry and liis connections made a hand ¬ some winning when the twoyearold Grenida won the first race The latter had shown great speed in private but Mayberry sueeeded in keeping the name of the colt under cover by taking bim first to one stable and then to another after his trials The re ¬ sult was that the liooks laid a liberal price which meant big profits to Grenidas backers backersAmong Among the visitors to pimiHo this afternoon were Algernon Daingeriield Col J L Hall I D Brown and Col Matt Winn It was Colonel Winns first visit to PUulico and he was much impressed with the isilibcr of the meeting He left tonight for Iitonia to look after the Closing of the fifty stakes that will be run at Juarez tliis winter lie reiwrts that the outlook for the Juarez meeting is much brighter than last season and that horsemen are responding NbernUy iti making entries to the stakes It is just jxiKsible that Richard F Carman and S C Hildreth may decide to race their stables at Juarez this winter winterJoseph Joseph McLennan who has been ably representing the Florida Live Stock and Agricultural State Fair Association at Pimlico left tonight for Latonia While here he secured something like 000 entries to the stakes Among the nominators are a majority of the big stables and Included Iu the number are R T Wilson Jr James Rowe P S P Randolph David Dunlop C C Smithson and W P Burch Al out five carloads of horses will shi direct t Moncreif Park from Pimlico PimlicoTroy Troy Weight winner of the seventh nice was boosted 70 over the entered price by Herman Klippeu and Theodore Coles but was protected and bought in for 1205 1205Countless Countless which is carded as a starter in the Bowie Stakes to be run on Monday had not arrived at Pimlico tonight tonightSeveral Several stables will leave tomorrow for Xorfolk The stables owned by Forrest Rose and August Bel mont left for that point tonight
