PROPOSED LEGISLATION FOR CALIFORNIA San Francisco Cal October 29 It is asserted that at the session of the California legislature which will convene iu January a bill will be intro ¬ duced to Iigalize the pariuiutuel system of betting on nice tracks in this state The measure it is said will be framed to prohibit the practice of oral betting which the highest court of the state has pronounced legal and also will limit the number of lays that may legally be devoted to racing on any one track It is said that such a measure will re ¬ ceive the support of all the associations where county fairs were formerly held the trotting horse gniiizatlons and some members of the Los Angeles Angelesicing icing Association whose track at Santa Anita Park lias been closed since the enactment of the WalkerOtis law in 1908 The attitude of T H William president of the New California Jockey Club on the proinjsed legislation has not been divulgtd divulgtdTrainer Trainer W P Maxwell has arrixcd at Oakland with the first division of the Oakwood Stock Ranch Stable from Lincoln Placer County It consists of twelve yeailinus and there are some wellbred young ¬ sters among them Mr Maxwell will handle about twentylive H rses for Lawrence Comstock pro ¬ prietors of Oakwood during the coming season Have seasonHave Henry who raced a stable of his own last winter will Iw with Barney Schreiber again this scawtn Henry recently received instructions from Hie Missouri turfman to go to his farm near Wood lulid in this state and bring to the Oakland track all the horsts that are tit to train A carload of lmrs s will alpo lx sent from Woodlands near St Louis aud vturned over to Henry
