CHRISTMAS DAISYS SECOND CAMBRIDGESHIRE London Eng October 29 The Cambridgeshire did not yield the hopedfor American triumph and although Vbisk Broom ran an excellent race it turned ut that liis hot favoritism at 3 to 1 was undeserved It was a repetition of last years Cambridgeshire Christmas Daisy again winning every yard of the way and unlucky Mnstapha again bringing up in hciond place That Inth first and second horses shoald repeat in successive years was without prec ¬ edent in the history of the race but Hacklers Pride hailing from the same stable that has now triumphed twice with Christmas Daisy won the big nice in 1903 and repeated in 1904 different horses finishing second This years Cambridgeshire wa a fastrun race which soon separated the wheat from the chaff in fact the pace set by the winner was of so cuttingdown a character that few could live up to it One of these was Whisk Broom which was second at the Bushes but Newmarkets hope could not live it out and Maher on Mustapha showed that the confidence of Dawsons stable In reducing its representatives to a single one must liave been very strong but again did Lord Carnar ¬ vons horse IiaVe to put up with second place But Christmas Daisy never left the result in doubt from start to finish making all the running and Don hno was aide to take a judicious easy coming down Bushes Hill where h got rid of Whisk ISroom and was enabled to beat Mustapha with a renewed burst oil speed by a length and a half Halcvon ran In his usual game fashion and finished a iiiek in front of Whisk Broom which just missed i place Twentyone horses ran bnt most of them were hopelessly outpaced throughout throughoutAs As compared with the Newmarket Second October Meetiii the Americans cut bnt little figure at the wmtrkct lioiighton meeting their only success f importance being the triumph of Mr Belmonts Hft and shapely filly Sandwich in the Criterion Stakes However but few horses from the American tables started in contrast to their usual practice if ricin frequently at Newmarket NewmarketSt St Nat in showing his ability to stay a mile Stakes refuted the idea v wiiiiilii the Honghton f his Io5ng touched in his
