ADAM COLT IN MADDEN STRING New York November 22 John E Madden will not have as many horses next year as he campaigned during the season just ended lie sold every year ng colt he developed at Hamburg Place to Richard Wilson Jr while the horses wen at Saratoga and he has since disposed of most of his fillies filliesBut But Mr Madden has a coming tireeyearold in his stable at Saratoga of which eastern horsemen expect fine things The animal in question is the Adam colt Adam Bede the dam of which is the English mare Grace Gumbcrt GumbcrtAdam Adam Bede is a chestnut of truly heroic propor ¬ tions He was developed for the Newcastle Stable last spring by Thomas Welsh He was the biggest and bestlooking of the first Adam yearlings brought to the market by the proprietors of the Millstream Stud and he sold for 4100 at the Shecpshead Iav sales in July ISKKI ISKKINo No twoyearold Mr Welsh trained at Gravescnd last spring could work more impressively that this fellow and he was a hot favorite in the only race in which lie started He was beaten in that raci because he was awkward and green and shortly after this defeat ho bruised one of his feet on a stone and Mr Welsh put him temporarily out of training Mr Madden purchased Adam Rede at tin dispersal sale of the Newcastle Stable at Saratoga and Mr Welsh declared at the time that the big chestnut was the bargain of the sale saleMr Mr Madden has no occasion to regret the purchase of Adam Hede The Adam colt is sixteen hands tall and lie is spreading in all directions Tin master of Hamburg Place who makes few mistakes in estimating the quality of a race horse is confi ¬ dent he will develop firstclass form next season and numerous engagements will be made for him next winter In threeyearold specials to be run at metropolitan tracks next spring and summer Mr Madden is always on the lookout for good material for stock purposes and if this fellow does not dis ¬ appoint his exnectations he will be retired to the stud when he is through with racing
