RACIKtt GOSSIP FROM THE EAST New York Deccnilier 19 H C Hallenbeck for whom F M Taylor trains IMS purchased from Matt Allen the twoyearold fillies Housemaid and Miss Minnie and two yearlings one of which is a chest ¬ nut filly by Orsini Marion Both yearlings were well tried at Saratoga Mr Allen will make a trip to Kentucky to buy some horses to replace those sold soldFrank Frank E Gardner has purchased the twoyearpld chestnut gelding Babbler by Hastings Bridepath from August Belmont at n price reported to be 3250 The horse Is still in trainer John Wlialens charge at Belmont Park but will be turned over to Mr Gardner in a few days It Is said that Mr Gardner will ship Babbler to Jacksonville to race during February and March The last good horse handled by trainer Gardner was Statesman which broke down badly during tbe spring meeting at Pimlico In 1909 1909At At Sbeepshead Bay track which had been deserted on account of a heavy snowfall the horses are once more but in their paddocks Firestone Fitz Herlwrt Royal Meteor Dalmatian Montgomery arid Rose pueen are among the horses enjoying outdoor exer bise W Karrick had Fashion Plate and Petronins out with four yearlings They are all In fine condition All tlie horses in the Oueck Stable are wintering In splendid shape shapeJohn John Hvland has six horses with San Vito that use at times the Keene paddock All are in good winter shape shapeGeorge George Perrin with Dandy Dixon lias taken up ouarters on the backstretch iu the old Winimer sta ¬ ble lie is the only trainer using that side of the track at the present time In other years every stable was full and that side was more In demand than the front frontCharles Charles Littlefield is better fixed than the rest of the trainers about the track His stable has an eighth of a mile ride There are two in thestable Mongolian and Sliacklcton but Mr Littlefield ex ix cts to have a dozen more to start spring training with W II Spence manager of Ramapo Stock Farm has returned from Hot Springs Va where he went on the advice of his physician following his return from tlie Kentucky sales a sick man manJ J I Smith who has trained the stable of J L McGinnis for the past three years will leave this week for Lexington Ky to handle some yearlings at the Idle Hour Stock Farm He is much taken with a colt out of his old mare Coy Maid
