MAN WITH THE HALTER IS ACTIVE. Three Run-Ups Mark Days Racing at Moncrief Bark Leamence a Winner Jacksonville, Fla., January 12. Perfect racing conditions attracted another large crowd to Moncrief Park this afternoon. Au evenly balanced program was iprovided and a majority of the races furnished linishes close enough to make the sport interesting. Three favorites won, including Im There, Darling and Ida D., and the former was at odds-on. Five of the races were selling affairs and the boosters were active, Peep Over, Ida D. and Darling being bid up and Casque being claimed. Guy Gray was responsible for the boosting of Peep Over. The latter was entered for 00, and when Mr. Gray bid 00 the gelding was knocked down to him. W. E. Suggs, owner of Peep Over, then retaliated by bidding up Darling, which was entered for . Mr. Suggs bid ,000, but B. D. Williams, instead of making the usual advance, bid ,100 and retained the liily. Mr.- Suggs also boosted Ida D. 00 over her entered price of 00, and S. A. Clopton retained her with an advance of . Mr. Clopton then claimed Casque, which finished second, for 25. Monte Preston, owner of Elmeta Hamilton, which finished second to Peep Over, protested the payment of the purse on the ground that Peep Over had won a race at the Kentucky State Fair and therefore was not a maiden. The matter was taken under advisement and a decision will be rendered tomorrow. The feature race, a mile allowance affair, brought out a smart Held of platers and resulted in a strenuous stretch drive, in which Leamence just got up to beat Nick S toner a nose. Billy Vnnderveer was a length away and a head In advance of Bedwine. witli Orbicular fifth, another half length back. It was the latters maiden effort at Moncrief and his first start in some months. lie showed a fine turn of speed, but quit as if short. Loftus rode his twenty-fifth winner when he captured the third race with Darling, which means that his apprenticeship will cease for all but his contract employers. Jockeys Tain and D. Boland had their first mounts of the meeting today. Fain will ride for Clint De Witt and Boland for Guy Gray. Louis Tauber has purchased the three-year-old Dusty from William Young and Hugh Penny has bought Third Bail from Guy Gray.
