REPORT CHEERS HORSEMEN WELCOME RUMORS AS TO EASTERN RACING RECEIVED AT MONCRIEF PARK. Tort Worth Only Favorite to Score On a Card Devoted Chiefly to Non-Winners Via Octavia Takes Measure of Governor Gray. Jacksonville, Fla., February 17. Friday is usually Jin off day at Moncrief Park and it has been the rule with the management this winter to provide races on this day for horses that have not won during the meeting. The conditions of a majority of todays races called for non-winners since November 23. and while fields that lacked class were brought together, still they were evenly matched and the result was well-fought contests and, close liuishes. In five of the six races the winners were first home by the shortest of margins. - Fort Worth was the only winning favorite, but two of the other winners. Via Octavia and Miss Marjorie,, were well-backed second choices. Miss .Marjorie was the only winner that had more than :i neck to spare at the finish. The feature race was the fourth, an allowance affair, for three-year-olds, at three-quarters of a mile, and it went to Via Octavia, which beat the odds-on favorite, Governor Gray, a neck. The winner was well ridden by jockey McCahey. Only one of the winners was boosted. After Fort Worth beat Corinth a head in the second race, Louis Tauber bid him up 00 over his entered price, but Sam Louis protected the colt and bought him in at 0.-,. Fred W. Gerhardy, secretary ,of the Jamestown Jockey Club, announced that Mars Cassidy had been engaged to do the starting at the Norfolk mooting this spring. Jockey" A.
