TAMPA ATTENDANCE BIGGEST YET. Tampa, Fla., February 17. Ladies day attracted the banner, attendance of the season; th,c plant being crowded ,to its capacity. The usual feature of a race for. amateur riders was of most interest to tho spectators. It was won by Sir Compton, ridden by Mr. II. McFall, promine-nt locally. Brougham, with Mr. Thomas, took second place and First Premium, on which Mr. Moody had the mount, took third money. Friend Virgil, which scored in Mondays Hunt Club purse, was awarded to the winning rider and his racing career Is terminated except in the final race, in which the winning amateur riders will meet ou their own mounts. The judges did not like the showing of Lighthouse and began an iuvestigation of his running. Daven-iwrt was not permitted to take the mount on Chanate. the judges substituting Troxler, and this was a factor in her success. Jockeys Pauley and Griffin were each suspended for two days by the starter and A. Martin and M. Simmons for three days. Tom Hatfield, employer of Jockey Winkfield. has received several tempting offers from other owners for the transfer of the contract. In the opening dash there was a mixup soon after the start which caused the unseating of jockey Paul. The Iwys foot caught in tho stirrup and he was in grave danger of being dragged to deatli when jockey Dreyer, on Fenrir. ranged his horse alongside and extricated Paul from his perilous position.
