MEETING AT SAVANNAH IN PROSPECT. Tampa, Fla.. March 17. Todays attendance was ? surprising! v small, but was made up of the more representative class of local race-goers. Small fields i were again the rule and the racing was good with i a liberal sprinkling of surprises. The volume of t speculation was greatly reduced and entailed a big : loss for the bookmakers. The main surprise of the ! afternoon was furnished by Carew. which showed 1 an Improved performance as compared with his last t preceding start. His good race this afternoon was 5 foreshadowed iu the betting. The judges were dissatisfied with the riding of C L. Jackson on Miss Cardigan in the opener and as i a result susMmded him indefinitely. Chess and several other horses arrived from Jack-sonvilli - where they have been campaigned unsuccessfully - for some time. The Savannah project is in process of revival and I Manager Strode will probably depart next week for i- tluu city to look the ground over with a view to giving a fifteen-days meeting at Thiinderlwdt Park. Aleneon was destroyed as a result of the breaking ; of a teg during the running of the third race.
