LONG SHOTS TO THE FORE SEVERAL WINNERS AT LATONIA COME EROM UNEXPECTED QUARTERS. Jenny Geddcs. Labold and Delaney Win Races in Which Favorites Make Disappointing Showings — Alamitos and Swannanoa Score. Cincinnati. O.. July 14. — Todays results were iu the main rtluB|HMllllllng. upsets marking most of the races with the winners turning By from the most un-cpe led sources. Alamitos and Swaunanou were the only successful favorites, and their victories failed to offset the losses suffered through the failures of Commoners Touch, John Griffin II.. Mary Davis and Emily I.ee. Of all the upsets that in the fourth race was probably the worst. Mary Davis appeared to have her opposition at her mercy, but failed to get any portion of the purse. T. Koorners blundering ride Bad frequent interference to which she was subjected during the running combined to beat her decisively. Labold, the extreme outsider of the race, won from White Wool, with County Tax in third place. In. the succeeding race, won by Swannanoa, Fireman was as good as left at the post. Starter "as sidy placed the blame on jockey Kennedy, rider of Fireman, and told the judges that in his opinion Kennedy had not made an effort to get away from the post. That Kireman would have been a serious factor in the running with an equal start, was shown by the manner in which he closed a tremendous gap to finish fourth, "assidy lined the jockey if loo and suspended him for the rest of the meeting. The closing race in which a poor lot made up the held, was marked by the victo. y of Setback over Bally I.ee and I.iMipold. The latter pair had been hacked to the virtual exclusion of the other starters. Emily l.ee took second place, but Leopold finished outside of the money. John Griffin II. agaiu disappointed when he brought up at the finish of the third race half a length behind Delaney. The latter was at long odds. Jenny Geddes. also at long odds, led Commoners ■V Touch to the finish of the opening daslu The latter W had 1m n the early leader and appeared a certain winner until the last twenty yards, when she suddenly weakened. Jockey Ganz was fined 0 by the starter for disobedience at the post and jockey Gould was sus ponded for the rest of the meeting by the starter as ■ result of breaking through the barrier. W. II. Kanhks shipment to Saratoga on Monday next will consist of fifteen head. The horses will be rested at the Spa until the resumption of racing on Kentucky track*. Schorrs racers will be inausfcrred next week to Fort Erie, for the racing which will begin there July 88. C. . Mr. Smith-son intimated that he contemplated retirement from the turf and that he will dispose of all his horses. J. R. A ainwright has reconsidered his intention •f racing during the summer and will rest the six horses he now has in training at Latonia during the next few weeks, then transfer them to Louisville to await the fall opening of racing in Kentucky. Irving II. WheatcKft announced today that he would lodge formal complaint with the judges tomorrow against J. T. Williams for non-payment of a mortgage he holds against several horses entrusted to him by Mr. Wheatcroft. It seems that the horses were sold to Mr. Williams on the contingent plan. Mr. Wheatcroft accepting a mortgage. Mr. Wheatcroft expects to have the judges take cognizance of the matter on the ground that the racing rules require an owner to record with the secretary the fact that there is an outstanding mortgage. Mr. Wheatcroft probably will also sue out an attachment to recover tin- ncncy he claims to bo due him.
