ADVERSE VOTE ON GITTINS BILL. Albany, N. V.. July 14.— The Gittins bill releas lag directors of racing associations from liability for betting carried on at race tracks without their knowledge was defeated in the senate yesterday by a vote of 2t to 22. With a view to obtaining allot h • • vote fin the measure Senator Cittins immediately niov. d that the vote be reconsidered. Ihis was carried :$ to 9 and the bill will be called up BKaJa. There were nine absentees and those behind Hie hill hope to secure enough votes to pass it next week it is probable that the next rote on the hill will he taken on Monday. Yesp-rdays absentees ineluded seven Republican and two Democrats. "The practical death of the Cittins bill in the senate vest,: day. said Andrew Miller, treasurer of the Saratoga Association for the Improvement of the Breed of Horses, "has rung the knell of racing in Saratoga Springs this year, next year or any other year so tang as directors of raeing associations are inade liable for betting. We were in hopes that the Cittins bill would pass, but since it has not racing ends in Saratoga."
