SALES OF THOROUGHBREDS IN ENGLAND. Big " Prices For Noted Broodmares American-Bred Yearlings Cheaply Sold. Like the Newmarket First July meeting the Newmarket Second July meeting is marked by important sales of thoroughbreds conducted by Messrs. Tatter-salls. While many yearlings are auctioned at the Second July the most imjtort.int features arc usually the disposal of drafts of broodmares and stallions from the big breeding establishments and wecdlng-out sales of horses in training. The chief item this year was the sale of Sir William Bass broodmares, the celebrated marc Sceptre included, and of some high-class mares belonging to the estate of the late J. II. Ilonldsworth. Haggins American-bred yearlings, none of which brought as much as ,000. Third day Wednesday, July 12. Hulton . 7,250 Chestnut colt, by Count Schomberg Lindal; Gi Lambton C.750 Chestnut filly, by William the Third Cassinia: A. F. Bassett 5,250 Bay colt, by PictOn Lavello; Sir II. Fitz- herbert 5,000 Chestnut colt, by Arizona Simple Avcu; W. Smith 3,050 In the course of the first days selling H. P. Whitney disposed of Witchwork for ,924. and the filly Iique Dame for 25, the latter failing to stand training. Aside from these the Haggin and Oxnard yearlings were the only Auiericau-breds sold.
