A syndicate of Buffalo racing men made an effort this week to purchase a controlling interest in the Ottawa Racing Associa- tion, which has bought property on the Quebec side, and which lias secured a Dominion charter. They came to Ottawa last week, looked into the proposi- tion, and otTered the association, at a special meet- ing. .10,000 for its plant and charter, the inten- lion being to include Ottawa in a new racing circuit. Thev also offered 0,000 for a large block of the stock. Hon. Clifford Slfton, who presided, however, tiuallv voiced the opinion that the charter, which was "procured three years ago, might now require renewal. In anv event, ho did not consider the association justified in selling just now. Eventually a committee was appointed to confer with the representative of the syndicate, but a prominent member of the association stated that until after the Dominion elections there woald he nothing doing. Many prominent politicians are members of the asso- elation, and will be too busy witli the coining campaign to pav much attention to their racing interests. It is understood that the majority of the inemlers are opposed to accepting the Buffalo proposition. It will, however, receive due attention. Work on the track itself will he commenced in a short time. The stock has already been subscribed and it is the intention of the association to have its nlant in readiness for its inaugural meeting in June next. The Buffalo syndicate has also made an offer for a plant and charter now owned and operated by a Montreal club. h u a -: 1 1 jj fl ,. , , ; , , . . , ; ; ; ,
