ACUMEN WINS GOOD STAKE. Spokane. Wash., October .1. With an attendance approximating 25,000, the second days program of the Spokane Interstate Fair was run off. The chief attraction was the ,000 Spokane Handicap at one mile. Acumen won by a scant half length from Roy Junior, with Ocean Queen third. Had Roy Juniors rider been alert at the barrier, the result would have been different, as ho was off badly and never got near the leaders till well into the stretch. The horse responded gamely, but the lost ground was too much to make up. Sidon won the two-year scramble with ease from Buri and Freewill. Wild Bear failed to show up in the paddock and was ordered scratched by the judges, the money wagered on him being refunded by the handbooks doing business. Jockey M. Matthews was ordered to accept no more mounts during the meeting for allowing Freewill to run out with him in the two-year-old race.
