MAD RIVER was off slowly, but steadily improved his position and went around the leaders with a rush while rounding the far turn, but tired in the last sixteenth of a game finish. JAWBONE came with a rush through the homestretch and would have won in another stride. DAINGERFIELD was always prominent, but kept swerving behind horses in the homestretch and ran disappointingly. BREAKER BOY tired after running prominently to the stretch. SUNLIKE set the pace for three-quarters and tired badly in the final drive. Overweights Mad River. 5 pounds. STILLY NIGHT followed BESOM closely until rounding the far turn, where she moved up on the outsldo with a rush and drew away with ease in the last furlong. BESOM, a rapid beginner, showed the most speed, for a half mile, then tired in the going, but finished gamely. ROSE QUEEN ran well and hung on longer than usual. SUFFRAGIST showed speed, but seemed handicapped by the going. HOMECREST ran poorly and had bandages on his fore legs. CAPSIZE was always outpaced. Scratched 9030S Hoffman, 100. BOB R. began slowly and was badly outpaced in the early running, but began closing up on the leaders while rounding the far turn and. coming through on the inside on the stretch turn, saved ground and, finishing fast, was going away at the end; SIR JOHN JOHNSON showed the most speed and, after having raced BEN LOYAL and PRINCE AHMED Into defeat, gamely withstood a challenge from KORMAK. The latter made a resolute effort on the stretch turn, but was carried wide and failed to get up. niLARIOUS kept stumbling. MARTIN W. LITTLETON finished fast. PRINCE AHMED and BEN LOYAL showed speed, but tired badly. PLATE GLASS refused to start and was pulled up on the first turn.
