RECORDS OF STINGER AND HERKIMER. It is to be regretted that H. C. Hallenbcck of New York, who has shown a commendable confidence m 1 the future of American racing by makiug substantial Investments in a racing stable at a time when I the sjtort has been greatly In need of patrons of Mr. Hallenbecks caliber, should have lost two such 1 good racers as Stinger and Herkimer, information 1 of whose deaths has just come from Aiken, S. C, the winter training grounds of the stable. Herkimer " was purchased by Mr. Hallenbcck for ,000 at : the sale of the Sanford horses at Buffalo last summer and ran only one race In the Hallenbeck colors. ; In which he finished second to the speedy Prince Ahmed, at Churchill Downs. Herkimer probably r would have more than won his purchase price in 1 purses and stakes had his career not boen cut short, as he was a fast horse. Stinger was unquestionably the better of the two horses. He was purchased during the past summer r by Mr. Hallenbeck at private sale from C. C. Smithson, for the reported price of 1911.sh,500, and ran 1 a scries of brilliant races for Mr. Hallenbeck during ? the Kentucky fall meetings under Frank Taylors 3 skilful handling. He possessed both speed and 1 stamina and showed marked consistency after ho 3 became a member of the Hallenbeck establishment. .
