, - z, COMING TWO-YEAR-OLDS IN TRASNING AT JUAREZ : It is the custom at winter courses to inaugurate the new year witii a race for the crop of new two-year-olds that annually are trained for contests on the track. The officials at Juarez are planning to follow this practice- on New Years day and word comes that a goodly number of juveniles are being prepared at that Mexican course for the inaugural scramble of the "baby" racers. Numerically, the list will not compare favorably with that of a year ago. This is a natural consequence of the general curtailment of the breeding of the thoroughbred in America attendant upon the passage of unfriendly legislation in various sections of the country. So far as quality is concerned the expectation is that the collection is quite up to the standard. It will be remembered that the get of the Texas stallion, Abe Frank, swept everything before them in the early juvenile racing of the present year at Juarez. J. P. Newman, in whose colors several of them scored, has another band of the sons and daughters of Abe Frank ready for the racing of 1912. J. IV Tram-mell, another Texas breeder, likewise lias a colt and a filly by Abe Frank at the Mexican course and it is possible that they may duplicate the successes of their near relatives of 1911. Stallions of such proven merit as Star Shoot. Sain, Hastings, Leonid, Cesarion, Ornament, Marchmont II. and others are represented in the list and the developments of the new year in this respect will be awaited with general interest.
