NEW MUTUEL DEVICES AT LOUISVILLE Louisville Ky May 10 With the opening of the fifteendays meeting of the New Louisville Jockey Club at Churchill Downs tomorrow the new electrical parimutuel machine will be used It is operated by one man The old style device required two oi eratives The duty of the operator of tlm latest improved machine is to receive and record all wagers When he issues a ticket in exchange for the money of the bettor he presses a lever over the pocket from which the ticket has been taken and the sale of the ticket is recorded by a numeral ap ¬ pearing in one of the apertures After each similar operation the machine will show the Individual rec ¬ ord of each horse and a grand total is recorded every time a lever is operated operatedFor For each of the three classes of betting straight place or show one or more machines are used as required They are arranged according to the de ¬ nomination of the wager and for the protection of the public the machines are locked when each race is started An electrical device from the judges stand to the betting ring is controlled by the pre ¬ siding judge Charles F Grainger president of the New Louis ¬ ville Jockey Club is at the head of the firm which manufactures this device He has just received an order from the Oklahoma City Jockey Club to instal the machines for that organization Parlmutuol machines are now in operation upon the following tracks Churchill Downs Lexington Latonia Pim ¬ lico Woodbine Winnipeg Calgary and in Britisn Columbia Additional mutuel machinery will in all probability be Installed for the fall meeting t Pimlico PimlicoThe The battery of machines now in use at Churchill Downs is the most perfect and extensive in America For days the management has had electricians per ¬ fecting their operation
