WORK IN BEHALF OF ST LOUIS TRACK St Louis Mo May 31 Provision for an advis ¬ ory committee of twentyfive to complete the collec ¬ tion of a fund of 100000 for reviving an annual St Louis Fair under the auspices of the Universal Exposition Company was made at a banquet attend ¬ ed by 200 St Louisans at the clubhouse of the Uni ¬ versal Exposition Company at Maxwellton St Louis County The committee is to soon be appointed by Cyrus F Blanke president of the Universal Exposi ¬ tion CompanyThe Company The motion for the appointment of the committee was made by Goodman King a leader in the Con ¬ ventions Bureau and seconded by Frederick C Lake secretary CompanyThe of B Nugent Bro Dry Goods Company The plans for raising the fund of 100000 con ¬ template 200 subscriptions of 500 each Of this number 123 have already been obtained Three per ¬ sons subscribed 00 each at the banquet Goodman King Charles F Wenncker and James Houchin can ¬ didate for the Deniocratic nomination for governor The committee will have the work of raising tne remaining seventyfour subscriptions subscriptionsIt It is planned to install on the site at Maxwellton a mile track for horse racing and an automobile speedway Both these are to be served by a con ¬ crete grandstand which the officials expect to have ready in sixty days It was also announced that a lake for aquatic sports and demonstrations would form one of the attractions attractionsThe The arrangements for raising the fund formed the conclusion of an elaborate program of set speeches which discussed the annual fair in all its aspects with special reference to the Agricultural and Me ¬ chanical Fair which was held for many years iu St Louis LouisThe The toastmaster was A O Rule real estate man The speakers included Cyrus F Blaukcs David K Francis Rolla AVells Mayor Kreismann and numer ¬ ous other prominent St Louis citizens citizensTwo Two speakers dwelt expressly on the live stock features which the new enterprise would offer Joseph A Murphy general manager of the Universal Exposition Company told that it was projected to make a live sto k exposition the initial attraction for the fair He told that at a recent meeting of the Southern Illinois Editorial Association aid was promised to make the live stock exposition an ex ¬ traordinary event Col John I Martin declared the new enterprise would tend to revive clean horse rac ¬ ing in St Louis which he asserted would be of great benefit to the city
