SPENDING 40000 AT DOUGLAS PARK Improvements Now in Progress Will Transform Louisville Track into One of Best in the West Louisville Ky July 29 After a suspension of actual operations for several years the Douglas Pars Jockey Club will this fall give an eighteenday moct Ing Douglas Park is one of tho handsomest racing plants in the West and when tho gates are thrown OIKII on September 10 the public will have an oppor ¬ tunity of seeing a plant which will rival in appoint ¬ ments countryUnder any track in the country Under the personal supervision of General Man ¬ ager John Hachnieister over 40000 will have been expended in beautifying the plant and making the improvements necessary for the parimutuel style of betting One of the many conveniences will be that tho parlmiitucl machines twentyfive in number will be so ijlaced that the general public may have an opportunity of witnessing their operation without going into the betting ring as the balcony will give a splendid view of the betting ring which is under the grandstandThe spacious grandstand The butting booths will be entirely of steel and K rtahle Immediately to the rear of the letting booth a supply room has been constructed which runs the entire length of the betting inclosure The old paddock has liecn converted into cashiers quar ¬ ters and twentyseven cashiers will be in attend ¬ ance in order that the public may cash wagers promptly promptlyBetween Between the betting ring and the cashiers quar ¬ ters will be the administration building in which General Manager Hachmeister will have his head ¬ quarters A general information bureau will be maintained in the same building for the benefit of the public A new paddock ninety feet In length is being constructed north of the old paddock which will contain fourteen stalls The paddock is being constructed along the lines of the paddock at tho Latouia track which is conceded to be one of the best countryFor in tho country For the convenience of horsemen and those who do not care to go to the grandstand to witness tin races a beautiful grove east of the paddock has been converted into a park and is being beautified with flowers and shrubbery with settees placed around in profusion Tho massive grandstand built of concrete and steel will scat 10000 people and is receiving considerable attention The floors are ing resurfaced and the rest of the stand will be in the painters hands for the next few weeks The whole stand will be repainted and new seats will re ¬ place the old ones onesAmong Among the innovations made by General Manager Hachmcister is a new track rail The rail was built with a view of avoiding accidents which are so com ¬ mon on many tracks With the new rail it will be next to impossible for a jockey to get his foot crushed by being crowded against the rail The rail will be lower than heretofore on all western tracks Tho rail posts are so set that they have a pitch of six inches from the ground to the top which will make it impossible for a horse to strike a post with his feet if he is crowded Into the rail
