SHORTPRICED WINNERS AT BLUE BONNETS Scratching Robs Several Races of Likely Contend ¬ ers Mission Is Winner of Handicap Montreal Quo Septemlier Five of the seven purses at Blue llomiets this afternoon went to the favorites Four of tin winners were at oddson and the public was forced to accept exceedingly short odds in some instances Small fields were the rule but interesting contests were provided and some of the finishes were close enough to arouse great enthusiasm Hamilton won his race by a head after a long stretch drive while Lesh came from the rear and got up in the closing strides to beat Apiaster a neck neckIdeal Ideal racing conditions brought out a good attend ¬ ance The track was in good condition and by tomorrow the going should bo fast The mile handi ¬ cap was robbed of some of its interest by the withdrawal of Star Charter which left Mission in what looked like a soft spot The IJelmont filly only had to canter to beat Airy and Garth which were coupled on account of both being trained by Capt W F Presgrave Mission led from start to linish and was under restraint at the end In the following race the Belmont colors were not so fortunate The Hock Sand Beldame colt Bela inbnr was supposed to be a good thing in this race which was a dash of six furlongs for three yearolds that had not won more than two races since May 10 Strong support developed for Bcla inour and he went to the post a well hacked favor ¬ ite lie flattered his hackers by taking the lead soon after the start but he was unable to open up a big lead and could never get further away from Ills opponents than a length On the stretch turn the bunched up and McTaggart went to a drive Belamonr hung on for a time but at the furlong post he began to weaken and was passed by Hamil tou and Acton The former responded to punishment with splendid courage and it was only in the closing strides that he got up to beat Acton Gun Cotton showed a good performance in the steeplechase which was over the two and a quarter miles course Jin Jitsu opened up a lead of fifteen lengths In the early stages but the last time around Gun Cotton wore him down to eventually win easily by eight lengths The winner reduced the track record by nine seconds secondsThe The stewards of the Canadian Racing Association held a meeting at the Windsor Hotel this morning to consider the cases of jockey Jimmy Bntwcli Ambrose Nolau and McCarthy The suspension im ¬ posed on Butwell at Fort Erie was lifted and the lad will be seen In the saddle again tomorrow Am ¬ broses case was passed until the next meeting When the hearing In his case came the lad was not present and he will be notified to bo on hand at rtie next meeting which will be held in Toronto Nolans case was passed over and McCarthy was granted a license The latter had been out of the saddle for a year or two George M Hendrie rep ¬ resentative of the Windsor track and John II Madigin representative of the Fort Erie track came on to attend the meeting Judge Monck was unable to be present Mr Hendrie said that the high standing of the sport which has been main tained In Canada during the past Vvo seasons1 will be maintained next season Special nducemets In the way of valuable purses will be givtX to attract the horsemen and with the addition of the new track at Ottawa and the possible addition of King Kdward Park which promises to come into the fold twentyeight more racing days will be added to tin circuit circuitMrs Mrs L A Livingston reports the loss of Pteolata one of the best horses in the string she shipped here from Hamilton Picolala died at Blue Bphucts on Friday
