TWO RACES DECLARED OEF CHANGE IN TRACK CONDITIONS RESULTS IN RIDDLING OF LOUISVILLE CARD Withdrawals So Numerous That Substitution of Two New Races Becomes Necessary Adverse Con ¬ ditions Play Havoc with the Patronage Louisville Ky September IS Hard rains dur ¬ ing the night coupled with threatening weather until after race time served to detract from todays racing at Douglas Park The track as a result of the drenching it received was heavy and difficult while the weather caused a slump in the attendance Thero was also a reduction in the volume of specula ¬ tion The change in the going was responsible for many withdrawals which in turn necessitated tho substitution of two new races for the fourth and sixth originally carded The absence of the handi ¬ cap left the card featureless all six races being under selling conditions The public showed poor judgment in the matter of selecting probable win ¬ ners only one pronounced choice scoring Thu chief incident of tho afternoon came with the finish oC the third race when Gagnant the longestpriced winner of the day got up in the last stride to take Working Lads measure The latter was u strong favorite and some of his backers took exception to the ollicial placing and started a mild demonstration There was no question about Gagnant getting up in time and the exception to the placing was un ¬ warranted Working Lad looked like the winner until the last seventy yards when he began to bore towards the outer rail and this cost him the purse W purseW W Darden of Nashville had a highly success ¬ ful afternoon for he scored a double with horses from pricesThe his establishment at liberal prices The bis field that went to the post in the opening again caused much crowding and was responsible for Starcadia being cut down so badly as to render her useless for further racing purposes J purposesJ R Wainwrights High Private which ruled favorite in the Inaugural Handicap at Douglas Park Monday had plenty of bad luck in that race Sun Queen gave him a furious kick in the ribs while at the post and the big gelding was caught in a jam on the lirst turn which practically settled his chances The kick caused him to pull up quite sore though he Is by no means seriously injured Mrs Wainwright was on hand to see High Private race but her husband is still in the far west hunting deer and big game She expects him to return to Kentucky in a week or two twoJockey Jockey Obert who rode Gardenia in the opening dash was suspended for six days by the starter for breaking through the barrier barrierThe The twohorse combination consisting of Terrible Kill and Gaguant paid its backers 33250 and the threehorse comprising Sleeth Reciprocity and Feather Duster 1700 for each 2 invested investedLon Lon Johnson has had Captain Hrowu gelded ind will not race him again until next season seasonW W II Fizer was among the arrivals from tho far west with Baby Doll and the maiden Brandor a brother to Friend Harry Mr Fizer before comiu4 here disposed of all his horses excepting the pair named He is looking for a new lot to campaign at Juarez the coining winter winterLuther Luther which raced yesterday has a case of badly bucked shins shinsTony Tony Wallace who is looking after the ship ¬ ment of horses to engage in the racing at St Louis is faring fairly well and will have enough to insure a successful meeting meetingHigh High Private was worked after the last race five furlongs in 103 103There There were few horses out on the track this morn ¬ ing and fast work was out of the question The best move was that of Fountain Square which went a half mile in 51
