DETAILS OF THE ROCK SAND DEAL New York October 23 Cheri Raymond Hal bronn of Paris France breeder and auctioneer of blooded horses who sailed today on the steamer Mauritania told a reporter further particulars re ¬ garding the purchase of Angust Belmonts great stallion Itock Sand SandThe The syndicate for which I purchased the stallion for 150000 and of which I am a subscriber said Mr Halbronn is made up of forty shares held by thirtyfour wealthy American English and French racing men In this syndicate are seven Americans They are Clarence Mackay Frank B Hitchcock Frank J Gould Joseph E Widener Charles Car roll Henry Payne Whitney and Charles Kohler KohlerAmong Among the English and French subscribers to the syndicate are Lord Lonsdalc Walter Raphael J Pratt Achillc Fould and G Guerlain GuerlainAugust August Belmont is not one of the members of the syndicate but he has two nominations for next year and will send over on the steamer Minne waska which leaves here on November 2 and on which Bock Sand is to be shlppj l two of his best mares They are Topiary dani of Tracery aud Golden View dam of Bock View both of which are to bo mated with Bock Sand SandTopiary Topiary is at present in foal to Rock Sand and it Is an odd coincidence that about seven years ago when Bock Sand was shipped to America Topiary was on the same steamer and now they are going back together togetherContinuing Continuing Mr Halbronn said The idea of or ganizing syndicates to purchase stallions was orig ¬ inated by me several years ago and Bay Ronald the sire of Bayardo was the tirst horse thus pur ¬ chased gundridge the sire of Sunstar was the second and the third is Rock Sand which will be taken to Vlllebonn William K Vanderbilts old stud about half way between Paris and Versailles VersaillesThat That Cberi Halbroun and his associates in tho Kock Sand syndicate have accomplished a great stroke of business in purchasing that stallion froiu Mr Bclmont for 150000 Is dally heiromlng ap ¬ parent The last issue of the English Racing Cal ¬ endar announces tbat the horses book for mares is full for the next four years but that a few sub ¬ scriptions may be transferred for 2500 each Ex ¬ perts place fortyfive marcs as a reasonable number for a stallion to be mated with each season On this basis Rock Sands stud value for four year will be 112500 each year or 450000 in all If he retains his present popularity and lives for nius years he is only twelve years old now he will earn more than a million dollars dollarsWhen When Rock Sand leaves this country on board thij steamship Minnewaska on November 2 he will t o under the care of Charles F Hill who for sonic years was Clarence Maekays trainer and later had charge of Meddler and Mr Mackays broodmares iu Kentucky As trainer Hill won among other races the Metropolitan Handicap for Mr Mackay with Banastar BanastarItock Itock Sand will be entrained at Lexington on Octo l cr XI will reach Now York on November 1 and will be put on board the vessel early on the morning of November 2
