STALLIONS FOR THE FAR WEST Montreal Que October 29 Another carload of Bu ¬ reau stallions left Montreal Saturday for the west The first stop will be at Brandon where two horses will be dropped one for Afhvlllo and the other for Melita Man The second stop will be at Cal ¬ gary the third stop at Lillooet B C and the final stop at New Westminster B C To show the farfetching efforts of the bureau one horse de ¬ stined for British Columbia will be taken eighty miles on a trail over three mountain ranges after leaving the railway He is going into a district where there are scores of choice mares maresThe The demand for bureau stallions which lias al ¬ ways been keen is now greater than ever nnd this In a large measure is due to the excellence of the colts which have practically made a clean sweep in the show rings throughout Canada CanadaThis This demand will be kept up during the winter mouths and the National Bureau will leave nothing undone to get thoroughbred sires not only on this side of the Atlantic bnt iu England and France FranceA A big concern has been started which among other things will collect the bureau crop of young horses This Is the National Live Stock Exchange with an authorized capital of 2000000 An or ¬ ganization meeting of this new company will be held in Montreal this week Arrangements are being made to secure the use of seventy thousand acres of land in Alberta for a term of years On this big ranch all the bureau yearlings and twoyearolds will be collected and matured When old enough they will be sold as remounts to Canada and Eng ¬ land This is the practical solution of the remount problem problemIt It is a good thins for the War Office a good thing for Canada awl a great booh to Canadian farmers and breeders To those who have been raising half breds it means quick returns for the colts will bo bought as yearlings whereas with other breeds tho farmer lias to hold them until they are three or four years old The hal breds in the Maritime Provinces and in Ontario auu Quebec will be collected and shipped to Alberta In the western provinces the same system of collection will follow It is possible that cither the Canadian or the British government may establish a cavalry horse training ground in Alberta so that these young horses may be broken and againThe trained before being shipped east again The gentlemen interested in the new concern are enthusiastic and are willing to see the thing through They are not figuring on profits for as one of thorn said yesterday it is not a proposition out of which a man should px ect to make profit The main object Js to rehabilitate the weakest arm of the imperial service by giving the cavalry men here and in England horses fit to ride rideThese These halfbreds before being shipped will be subjected to veterinary examination They are by sires which are inspected by the Dominion govern ¬ ment once a year nnd are out of selectinl mares They are all halfthoroughbreds and this cross makes the best cavalry horse Jn the world
