NEXT YEARS EPSOM DERBY HORSES Hitherto there has been no wagering on next years Derby but to relieve the anxiety of a cor ¬ respondent let me say at once that the Irish colt Sleipner is not engaged Nor is the sou of His Majesty and Proserpina dam also of Wethers Well in any race in England which closed prior to last March these of course including the Two Tliou sand Guineas and St Leger Winter wagering on the Derby if there is any will be confined to very few horses and one of these Craganour stands out almost by himself having won five races out of si The only time he suffered defeat was when beatm by a head at Goodwood by Rock Flint but inf chu Middle Park Plate he decisively reversed that run ¬ ning winning in a canter by three lengths from Shogun and Louvois with Mr Reddingtons colt Hst of seven That we saw Rock Flint in his true ool ors however cither in the Middle Park Plate or in the Dewhnrst Plate for which he ran third to Loa vois and Sanquhar is doubtful Glancing down tho long list of horses left In the Derby I fear that nou of the four belonging to the King is likely to rival the success gained in the last reign by Minoru Of the quartette only two have run in Amner whose form Is very moderate and Flitchaui who has not been seen oat since he made his first appearance in the Fitzwilliam Stakes during the Craven week for which he was unplaced to Laudes Yellow Pearl and Laomedou are still strangtrs to a race course lu Roseworthy A F Basset owns a smart colt but inferior on the book to Rock Flint FlintM M Edmond Bhiiic who has so often threatened danger in the past races for the Blue Riband has nothing engaged having paid the minor forfeit for the only two that he nominated Shogun which was entered by his breeder D R Browning cau do duty for E Hulton and is held safe on the book by Craganour but the best twoyearold is not always the best in the next season of which we have of late years had numerous proofs Mr Hulton has also Flippant and Queens Man engaged but the lastnamed comes up for sale at the Newmarket IKs ccuiher sales Craganour stands Jn the nomination of II Cholmondeley and is of course a Sledtnere bred youngster J B Joels party of three are Radiant brother to Sunstar and White Star Sun Yat ami the Sumlridge colt out of La Vierge dini of Sir Geoffrey and Lycaon As to the rest tharo are possibilities iu Glencairn which could have won more easily than he did at Newbnry but his brood ¬ ing by Orby out of an American sire Is not suggts tive of staying Lord Belvoir by Desmond Palotta also looks more like speed than sta3ing power ami he too is coming up for sale next mouth Mr Nelke has a pair of useful ones in Laudes and Halos but there is nothing in the form of either suggestive of a classic victory More promising me Mr Raphaels Louvois and Lord Rosebcrys San iiuhar while of the public performers in L de Roth ¬ schilds lot Day Comet looks the best Such as Aldegonde Diadumenos and Great Sport are three other useful colts but with the exception of the dark division and one or two French colts therw is really nothing else worthy of mention and even some of those I have mentioned can have but a re ¬ mote chance Vigilant In London Sportsman
