CHANGE IN JUAREZ GOING MUD RUNNERS GET CHANCE TO WIN PURSE3 AS AFTERMATH OF RAIN. Scratches So Deplete Original Fourth and Sixth Races That They Are Declared Off and Substitutes Provided, El Paso. Tex.. January 1G. — A heavy rain storm which occurred during the night left the Juarez track sticky and holding. Withdrawals were so numerous that it was necessary to declare off the original fourth and sixth races and substitute new ones. The threatening weather had the effect of making the attendance one of the lightest of the meeting. Miss Jean, the winner of the bated race, appeared to like the going and won in a common canter. Judge Price has been confined to his rooms, suffering from a severe attack of indigestion. He is not seriously ill. but by the advice of his physician he will rest for a while. He has been constantly at his duties since last spring without a lay-off. Jockeys Selden and Rooney, who came here when the meeting opened and were granted licenses by the board of stewards to ride for thefr contract employers only, have fallen in disfavor with them and both have returned to their homes. Roonev lives in Butte and Selden at Oakland. In all "probability their riding careers have come to an end. Charles Qualey. a big mining opurutec of Chihuahua and New Vork. stopped over en route to the last named [dace and was a guest of Fred Fenchler. The firm of Foley and Mizell. which has been racing hero all season, was dissolved t xlay by mutuel cotl-Hent. The two men will divide the string and each will race part of it under separate ownership. W. R. Mizell has taken over the following horses: Ar-delon, Ralph Lloyd and Terrible Bill. Brevite. Lewin. Hughie Quinii. OlBud Lad and Barbara Worth will appear in the future in Martin Foleys colors. Ed Jasi er, racing secretary of the Jockey Club Juarez, who has been confined to his home with an attack of rheumatic gout, was congratulated today U|M»n the birth of a daughter. The mare Qctdflnn, in some unaccountable manner injured heiself m her stall last night. While the Injury Is not considered serious, it will be some time liefore she again races.
