TRAINING GOSSIP FROM LEXINGTON LEXINGTONLexington Lexington Ky April 2 Special correspondence This was a busy tnoriIng for the trainers at the Kentucky Association track There were plenty of visitors to see what Was going on and lively interest was evinced In the various moves Johnson N Caniden member of the Kentucky State Racing Commission and master of Hartland Stud was out to see his twoyearolds tried linder the direction of his eflicieiit trainer J O Keene Mr Camdeii was especially pleased with the manner in which his two liVders Futurity eliglblcs the chestnut gelding by Peter Quince Sparkle and the bay geld ¬ ing by Peter Quince Kose Marjorie did the won jtssigtied to them They were worked together a half in 50 and the Sparkle gelding proved the superior The Kose Marjorie gelding did his work handily enough but the Sparkle gelding was only breezing throughout and it was the opinion of good judges that he could have gone the half mllo in 4S had he been asked to toMr Mr Caniden also saw his Kentucky Derby candi ¬ date Helios gallop two miles in companv with a pony Helios is not doing as well as his trainer would like having developed a fractiousness that Is anything but pleasing J 0 Kecnes own Kentucky Derby candidate Jxird Marshall galloped along nicely He lias grown into a grandJooking horse horseCol Col Robert Holloway was the guest of Woodford Clay when trainer French Brooks sent a few of the Clay youngsters along Magneto breezed three quarters in 11 Breaker a Breeders Futurity eligible galloped a half in 51 this promising youngster is out of the good mare FJig Ship and outlooks anything here in the juvenile line lineCol Col Thomas Moore was the guest of T C Mc ¬ Dowell who did only slow training lie sent Swannanoa a half mile at a twominute gait The Manager threequarters In 120 hard held and McCorkle threequarters in 11 breezing The lastnamed looks good as does The Manager which good racer is training lu a highly satisfactory man ¬ ner nerJames James Gass who has charge of tlie G W T Ills sell horses reporls that all of the racers in Ills string shinned from Charleston in fine condition The same is true of the horses of J II Nichols NicholsJ J M Giiode has given away a twoyearold that developed pneumonia after his arrival from Charles ¬ ton The youngster has never raced racedHiekey Hiekey Bros Oaks candidate Old Woman worked the best mile of the day for trainer W J Young She had her weight up and went the mile in 145 It is predicted that she will be a dangerous factor in the Oaks if she continues to improve ns she lias of late Another Oaks candidate that worked was Daisy Platt which Andrew Gallaher is training for J L Watkins She went threequaretrs in 110 well in hand Grif and Rash other members of the Gallaher string breezed threequarters in 130 handily handilyT T I Hayes had out most of his big string He has the most extensive establishment here it being made up of over thirty horses Young Mr Hal Price Ilcadley for whom he is doing some train ¬ ing came out to see his youngsters in action Douerail was sent a mile in 14S cantering Jabot threequarters in 118 irl of Savoy liveeighths in 103 breezing Batouche fiveeighths in 103 and a couple of twoyearolds by Ornament went a half in better than 50 Jabot looks as if he will come around in line shaiie and Batouche is also promising in aypearance and action It looks as If the latter is not far from ready for racing right now nowJ J C Milani worked a twoyearold by Star Shoot Queen Dixon a half mile in 52 She is a grand looking filly fillyLexington Lexington Ky April 3 Special correspondence This morning trainer J I Smith breezed II II Hewitts Impression a mile in 140 Impression is being pointed for the Phoenix Hotel Handicap and will surely start In that Tacn if the track is fast when it is run He is doing so well that trainer Smith regards his cjiances as good goodFlora Flora Fina another eligible for the same race was sent along a slow half In 52 with Bauorella It was a good move for both bothJune June Collins had out A 15 Lowes Phoenix Hotel candidate Miss Thorpe which covered threequarters in 117 ami could have done much better Collins thinks she will race as well this spring as she did last fall and perhaps better betterT T P Hayes sent Ha Price Headleys Ashland Oaks candidate along threequarters in 118 She had some early speed Walter Taylor handled her and she appears to be training well W L Lewis had out that good daughter of Silk Maid Silk Day which he is pointing for the Ash ¬ land Oaks She breezed threequarters lu 122 122J J O Keene worked J N Camdens Blue Grass Stakes and Kentucky Derby candidate Helios a mile in 147 with B Steele in the saddle Helios was ightlns for his head all the way Lord Mar ¬ shall an eligible for the same stakes went a mile in 143 with good weight up This is a horse that has Improved a great deal since his return from Juarez and Jt begins to look as if lie will be a keen contender with the l cst of the threeyearolds Lodona Mr Camdens Oaks candidate breezed a milo in 145 with Steele in the saddle and she looks the part of fitness even nowT G B Morris Oaks candidate Kiva was sent a slow liveeighths in 105 Console from the same stable went threequarters lu 121 He shows some soreness in his work but looks good goodWilliam William Perkins is going right along with M fi Moores Clubs He worked threequarters In 122 breezing lie never looked better and Perkins has an idea that he will be a useful racing tool this spring 1 W Scotts Flying Tom was sent threequarters iu 118 under the watchful eye of John Stevens lie has grown into a grandlooking threeyearold Worlds Wonder which S C Cottrell is training for Oscar Williams went threequarters in 117 with good weight up He appears to be lit even now
