DOING WELL IN AUSTRALIA Americanbred Thoroughbreds Racing with Signal Success in the Antipodes Lexington Ky April 5 A letter written by Dr M M Leach of this city at Melbourne Australia March 3 was received here this week Racing is extra good in these parts just now says lie the autumn campaign being iu full swing The New ¬ market Handicap was run Saturday The crowds are enormous All the people are well dressed and all appear to have money moneySome Some of the horses Robertson brought over from Hie United States have been doing well of late Dewberry a sister to Fred A Forsythes Berry Maid has won four races recently and Hamburg Belle the daughter of Planudes and Saratoga Belle Is quite a good one probably as good a sprinter as they have here Most of the horses owned by the Tye Brothers come up for sale this week and they are 1 think going to curtail operations a bit bitI I got back from Cape Town South Africa a week ngo last Saturday bringing three good horses that were purchased in Kngland for me They are Deviltry a bay colt four years old by Robert le Diable dam Word of Honor by Saraband she out of Geheimiiiss an Oaks winner by Kosicrncian This colt was third bis last out he can stay well and is thoroughly sound Dame Alys Is a three yearold filly by Chaucer sire of Stedfast out of Prim Alice dam of DroskI by Prism and goes back to Miss lummy an Oaks winner by Petrarch The other is a big fine chestnut mare five years old by Count Schomberg dam Persil by Persim ¬ mon and tracing to Bribery St iUhans dam one of the liest families In the lK ok It being my object to effect a good sale witli these horses I have de ¬ cided to train them a bit If they will reproduce their Knglish form they will run into big money This being the case 1 do not know when I will start for America AmericaIrving Irving II Wheatcroft sails from here on Friday by the Otway for Kngland but I do not think he will get to America before the autumn He did well enough with his yearlings and now has gone Into the sheep business in Queensland lie certainly is a wonder He told me he still has a crop of year ¬ lings in America and I believe he is interested iu some of the horses running here Kmbraecr Is quite a good sort and little Waltz is also winning races King liroomstick has no heart and has not done much good but Green Seal Is winning races of a sort Miss Sain and Hasty Agnes look well They are to be sold this week weekThe The weather is rather hot just at present H was terribly so In Sydney whither I went last week to see about selling a couple of mares I still have one of which is tlie dam of a good twoyearold winner in Kngland Tlie trip to and from Cape Town was the same old thing
