TEN POINT COMING WEST SATURDAY Two Prominent Kentucky Derby Eligiblcs to Bo Shipped From Havre de Graco Louisville KV April 20 Trainer Elijah Brew stor is in receipt of wonl that A L Astos great threeyearold Tea Point now ruling almost equal favorite with Hawthorn in tin future books on the Kentucky Derby to be run at Churchill Downs one week from the coining Saturday will he shipped from Havre do Grace to Louisville next Saturday with the string of II C Hallcubcck It is not as yet known just wliut horses the latter turfman will send to the Downs in this shipment but in the col ¬ lection will be his Kentucky Derby candidate Fred ¬ erick L The letter made no mention as to when John Whailen will ship his Derby candidate Buskin here hereHas Has tern turfmen arc loud in their praise of the soil of Jack Point and the most enthusiastic hail him as the best threeyearold seen in the east since the days of the great Sysonby His coming to run in the big race on May 10 will add to the already intense interest in the Derby as Kentucky turfmen think there is no question but that he will meet a foeman worthy of his steel when he clashes with C F Biischeineyers great gelding Hawthorn which in spite of tiie presti e Ten Point has gained by his recent victories at Havre de I race is still the favorite for the big race raceOn On account of the state of the going at the Louisville tracks today there was little fast work possible but all the horses were thoroughly exer ¬ cised At the Downs the dogs were still up during most of the day Superintendent Keegau is reconstructing all his harrows and lloats and be ¬ ginning tomorrow will go to work in earnest to make the course at the Downs as perfect as possible The heavy rains of the last twentyfour hours were just what the course needed and in the opinion of horsemen after Kcegan completes his work on the course it will not only be in a recordbreaking condition but unusually safe to race over overAbout About the best work of the day at either course was by trainer OConnells twoyearold Requiem which worked throeeighths in o7 and ran as if she fancied the soft going This filly is a daughter of Tony Faust and looks like a twoyearold that will prove a handy racing tool toolJames James MacMainus stopped over today on his way to Lexington from French Lick Springs where he has spent most of his time since the close of the Juarez meeting Most of the MacManus horses are Still at Churchill Downs and he went over to Lex ¬ ington more for the purpose of seeing two of his horses which had ibeeu turned out during the winter at Idle Hour Farin than to attend the racing These performtrsarc Rocky OBrien and the maiden thriKyearoId OSullivan Rocky OBrien has done little racing since 1011 when he was a fouryear old He was one of the greatest twoyearolds that Mr MacManus ever owned and won the 20000 Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga in 1900 in which race he beat the Futurity winner of that season Sweep Mr MacManus thinks with his long let up he will come back in g d condition this season OSiilll van was a promising twoyearold but went wrong last year He wintered well and is sound He is a PayU brother to Mr MacManus useful plater Tay Pay U C Hallenliecks stable which will arrive on Sunday or Monday from the Havre de Grace track will be accompanied J y jockey Musgravc who is under contract to ride for the New York turfman Musgrave will have the mount on Frederick L in the Kentucky Derby and will pilot Mr Ilaillenbecks other horses in their engagements on the Louisville and Latonia tracks this season seasonLew Lew Marion on account of the heavy going gave Prince Hermis and Sam liirsch slow gallops over the paths at the Downs These two Kentucky Derby candidates could hardly look better and Prince Hermis is lining down to a colt of superior con ¬ formation He may lack the early speed of some of the other probable starters in the big race but he works like a colt that will stay the distance and run the last quarter about as good as he does any other part Marion has a high opinion of Prinw Hermis 1 C Bright tlie owner of Brightstone which is in the stable of trainer Jack Baker at Lexington today inspected the large string at the Downs in trainer James Kveruians care Bright has in mijid the early purchase of some colt or lllly as a com ¬ panion in training to his threeyearold In fact he may before the season is over bo the owner of a racing string of considerable pretentious Capital pretentiousCapital Bravo one of J II Meads selling platers got away from his rider at the Downs this morning and before the boy could get him under control he had circled the course foiir times Mead is un ¬ able to tell how seriously Capital Bravo may be injured by his long run but he seemed to think that there would be no serious effects effectsTin Tin noted long distance race mare Mamie Algol which now belongs to a Louisville business man is at present in the stud at W F Schultes Argyle Farm and an effort will be made to raise a colt from her by one of George J Longs noted horses Mamie Algol is now eleven years old and holds the American record of 310 for three miles which race she ran at New Orleans when a fiveyearold in February 1007 She was one of the most remark ¬ able race mares of recent years inasmuch as in her early days she drew a milk wagon about the streets of Louisville One of her most remarkable perform ances was in tin Thornton Stakes in California when she was beaten a nose by Los Angelcno at four miles in the mud in 727 As a result of the closeness of the race a renewal of it was arranged for u few weeks later and again the two finished noses apart just as they had in the original running of the stake Her owner has hopes of some dav seeing this noted mare produce a colt that will lw able to win the fourmile Kentucky Endurance Stakes StakesJ J II Mead returned to the Downs yesterday from Lexington with his three horses Chapultepee Capl tan Bravo and Hanly He was compelled to stable his horses outside the racing enclosure at Lexington on account of the crowded condition of the stabling quarters there and he had stables which let in the rain not only utxm his horses but his feed and stable pharphernalia His three horses reached the Downs In good shape and are now in their old quar ¬ ters in the Long barn at the stable entrance of the track trackStalls Stalls arc being bedded down at Churchill Downs for the string of trainer W T Spiers who is ex ¬ pected to arrive here within the next twentyfour hours from Latonia Spiers has the fiveyearold Labold the fouryearold Patruche and several two yearolds some of which are credited with being promising Spiers wintered his string at Latonia and none of his horses have been away from that track fallLon since racing closed there last fall Lon Johnsons racer Colonel Brown is rei orted to be training well at Latonia and is seemingly getting over his recent accident Johnson had Colonel Brown turned out on a farm near this city and while there the performer ran Into a barbedwire fence and cut himself considerably lie was not crippled so badly as ait tirst supiioscd and there is a chance now of getting him to the races this spring at u fairly early date dateJockey Jockey Eddie Taplin who is here to ride the horses that James S Evormain is training at the Downs including those of I N Prewitt C 1C Hamilton and J II Morris has scaled down so he will be able to ride at 100 pounds this spring This will create ai domain for this riders services when In is not engaged on the horses of his employers Taplin ranked seventh in the list of American win ¬ ning jockeys last season with 120 winning mounts to his credit Hill Turner Gross Rutwell Loft us and Purlingame were the only jockeys which stood above him in the list Taplin was at Jamestown this spring but rode few races lie says the weather was so severe there that be refused many mounts and on several occasions laid off for as long as three days at u time timeM M 15 Gruber owner of the much talked about Uncle gelding Little Nephew which won so im ¬ pressively on the opening day at Lexington secured this colt from J K Madden for GOO so it is said He bought a tllly by Yankee at the same time but tin latter appears to hold out scant promise Hot It were purchased at private sale Little Nephew Is engaiged in the Idle Hour Staikc scheduled to beurun at Lexington Thursday and in that event will meet the unbeaten crack Old Rosebud which is also hr Incle Mr Gruber is a Louisville business man anil this is his
