and Sticky Lexington Ky April 20 Under a bright sky over a heavy sticky track aunl before ai gtxMtly num ¬ ber of spectators Jack Weavers LatoniatraiiiLd lilly Gowell ai daughter of Ort Wells and Responsive this afternoon won the Ashland Oaks for threeyear old fillies one mile net value to the winner 1018 which was the feature of the card for the third daiy of meetingGowell the Kentucky Association spring meeting Gowell was second choice to The Widow Moon in the betting and had jockey Borel for her pilot She wais slow to break being the last except one to leave the post when starter Morrissey sprung the barrier to at good start for all except E H Brad leys Ballyshe which was in somewhat of a tangle ais the taipe flew up Old Woman showed the way around the first turn with Daisy Platt at her flank and Gowell racing third On the backstretch Daisy Platt took the lead and held it until they turned for the run up the hill where Borel began to move up with Gowcll and Kederis followed suit with The Widow Moon In entering the stretch Gowell aind The Widow Moon were first and second but as they straightened oiit for the drive to the finish it was clear that The Widow Moon could not win She had been held out of it tin long apparently and having to go wide coming up the hill was to her greater disadvantage An eighth out Gowell was five lengths in front of The Widow Moon but the latter was running faistest of the two and made up two lengths of the distance between them Ballyshe was third twelve lengths back Old Woman Daisy Plaitt and Lodona brought up in the ruck in tho order named Susan It in the first and Bauorella in the last were the winning favorites of the day Susan B s a good looking lilly a daughter of Bearcaitcher and Torsido bred owned and trained by O A Biauchi otherwise Daggle Smith and she was foaled in California She is unquestionably a good one espe ¬ cially iu the mud Bauorella won the closing race by so great a margin Hint it was really a shame to take the money The moneyThe opening race went easily to Worlds Wonder the second race was n romp for Cash on Delivery omlthoflfth race produced a stirring linixli in slow time between Rutlles Shelby Belie Hattie Me and Flying Francos in the order named namedKing King Box fell In the first raco but neither horse nor injuryJohnson rider sustained any injury Johnson N Camdcn returned from New
