JOCKEY KILLED AT BELMONT PARK Ncw York May 27 Thrown over the head of the horse he was riding when the animal stumbled near the Liverpool jump on the steeplechase course William Smith a jockey was killed this afternoon at Belmont Park His neck was broken when he landed on the far side of the water jump after turning three somersaults in trio air The horse was uninjured Smith took out Flatter a newcomer in the field for a tryout The horse sulked when taken over the crosscountry course and refused many of the jumps Smith forced the animal to take the fences and hurdles after each refusal and finally hail the animal working right when lie started for the Liverpool The horse was going at top speed as lie neared this leap but just Ivefore the takeoff he stumbled Smith landed twenty feet away on the opposite side of the water and when picked up lie was unconscious lie was dead before a physician arrived from the Jamaica hospital He was connected with the Widener stable was nineteen years old and a native of Warrentown Va
