PIPING ROCK RACEGOERS DRENCHED Rain Falls as Juvenile Consolation Event Is Run Relluf Wins Steeplechase New York June 7 Threatening weather failed to keep the crowd away from the Piping Hock track this afternoon the attendance being large and the greater part of those present received a drenching drenchingJust Just before the running of the Piping Rock Con ¬ solation race a terrific storm broke over the grounds and the rain came down In torrents As the stand affords no protection from this sort of weather tho crowd made a dash for the clubhouse but as it is quite a distance from the stands hundreds were caught iu the rain rainA A field of twenty faced starter Milton for the big event but when the race took place It was Im ¬ possible to see any part of the running until tho last furlong Itosa was then seen to bo in front and easilyAs she won the race easily As a result of the rain the remaining three events were reduced by withdrawals and small fields started in each eachThe The Whitney Memorial Steeplechase which prom ¬ ised to be one of the best jumping races of the reason had only six starters although twenty eight were carded Uelluf from the Widener stable won easily from O Bear BearJ J E Widener owner of the horse Kxemplar which fell in a race on Thursday causing the death of jockey Lynch today started a subscription for Lynchs family and headed it with 500 He also will pay the funeral expenses
