PREPARING FOR THE KEENE SALE New York July 21 An unusual event will take place in Madison Square Garden on the evening of September 2 when all the thoroughbreds belong ¬ ing to the estate of the late James R Keene will be sold at public auction It was made known a week or two ago that the remainder of the noted Castleton Stud would be put under the hammer in this country but it was only a day or two ago that Solomon Hanford executor of Mr Keenes estate decided to dispose of the horses in the big arena here hereWitli Witli the announcement of the sale the news is coutiermed that the Keeue executor will go the limit In depending on the American market by bring ¬ ing back the stallions Colin and Peter Pan from England to take their chances with sires that have remained in this country Pun Chinn is in England now getting Colin and Peter Pan ready for shipment and these great race horses of the past will arrive in New York about the middle of August AugustA A promising broodmare which will be included in the sale arrived here last week from Lord Marcus Beresfords breeding establishment in England This is Wendy Lady by Peter Pan BIturica the dam of Maskette She will be shipped at once to Kingston Farm Lexington Ky where the rest of the Kecno horses in this country are Wendy Lady Is in foal to Colin ColinAll All the Keene yearlings were sold this year to James Butler so that all remaining to be disposed of to clear the breeding establishment are the stallions broodmares and weanlings There are eight stallions besides Colin and Peter Pan and nearly all have made their marks by siring winners of the big races Ben Brush 1S93 by Bramble Roseville and Voter 1894 by Friars Balsam Mavourneen have done yeoman service In the past but their twoscore years is likely to count against them when put up for sale Another noted old sire is Disguise 1897 by Domino Bonnie Gal but after these oldtimers have been disposed of the stock conies down to young stallions with a brilliant future They are Delhi 1901 by Ben Brush Veva Hippodrome 1004 by Commando Dominoes Celt 1905 by Commando Maid of Erin Ultimus 1905 by Commando Running Stream nud Sweep 1907 by Ben Brush Pink Domino DominoAmong Among the twentynine broodmares which will be offered are such noted racers as Cap and Bells winner of the Epsom Oaks and Dominoes The sale will follow the closing of racing at Saratoga which promises to be by far the best turf fixture of the present year
