BROWN TO HAVE ANOTHER TRACK Manager of Laurel Meeting Announces That He Will Give Winter Meeting of One Hundred Days New York July 21 H D Brown president and general manager of the Maryland State Fair at Laurel Mdf today stated that It was true that an adjustment of differences between that association and the Jockey Club was under way and that he hoped the settlement and understanding would bo permanent Mr Brown said saidI I prefer not to be making statements to the press but it seems that every time anything has been done in the Jockey Club controversy some one or more of the New 1ork papers has thought it worth while to publish statements containing glaring er ¬ rors taking violent partisan stands and questioning my motives My position is now much stronger than it has ever been as I will have under my control another race track which will insure the horsemen a race meeting of one hundred days for next winter What however led me to agree to a settlement was that 1 did not want to do anything to the detriment of racing or to the injury or race horse owners I have been solicited by a great number of horsemen not to put them in the embarrassing position of seeming to antagonize the Jockey Club They stated that thev would come to our track and race with ¬ out the sanction of the Jockey Club but asked me to save them from the necessity of seeming to take sides The Jockey Club has since the beginning of our suit said that it has no jurisdiction to enforce any ruling in favor of Mr Kuapp and has sought an adjustment of the differences between us and the public and the press have seemed to be badly twisted on the matter of the one per cent charge ¬ able in favor of the Jockey Club not against us but against the horsemen and of which we were merely custodians and I have reached the conclusion that in the interest of horse owners and others engaged in racing I will not now press the controversy
