TEN POINT EACES POORLY POORLYASTE ASTE COLT LACKS THE DASH THAT MASKED HIS PERFORMANCES OF LAST SPRING Son of Jack Point Finishes Third in Allowance Race Raceat at Hamilton for Which He Rules Favorite Useeit Makes New Track Record Hamilton Ont July 20 The Hamilton Jockey Club offered a splendid program for the opening of its second and linil meeting for 1913 and a large attendance was present Form was well observed during the afternoon and wellbacked hores won practically all the purses The princi ¬ pal disappointment of the day was the jxxir show Ing made by A L Astes Ten Point in the six furlongs allowance race for which he was a wellhacked favorite Ten Point had not started in a couple of months but it was thought that his finality would carry him through When it came to the running Ten Point failed to show the great turn of speed he displayed at Uavre de Grace last spring when it looked as If he ciinltl heat any horse in the country at sprinting illstances Gross was unable to get him going well in the early stages and he left the barrier very slowly He went to the front in the first tuarter and led for a short distance but In round Ing the far turn the great Broomstick gelding Leoehares wore Ten Point down and easily dis ¬ posing of him drew away into a commanding lead n win by four lengths Ten Point tired at the lid and was beaten out for second place by Pan Xareta The six furlongs were run in 111 which was closo to the track record On todays showing Ten Point would have no chance of beat ¬ ing a roll like Ilorron over a considerable distance of ground groundThe The track was exceedingly fast on the inside that part of it having been scraped In the sixtb race a dash of five and a half furlongs Useeit made a new track record She won easily after leading from the start and ran the distance in 1 0i1b The former record vas 100 100The The Prince Edward Selling Stakes proved a stirring contest the finish resolving itself into n duel between Blackford and Paton with the former victorious by three parts a length My Fellow winner of the seventh race was bid up 300 over his entered price of 700 by J W Rurttschell but was retained by 11 G Bed BedThis This was the second running of the Prince Edward Stakes the brief history of which is as follows Year Winner AWt Jockey Val Time 1972 Volthorpe 4 103 McCabey 1140 213 213lli lli Ulackford 7 10 ° Teahan 1240200 1240200J J 11 Respess closed the deal for Jockey Mon tours contract with It D Carter this morning paying for It 1300 in cash and the horse Autumn The lad was to have had two mounts this after ¬ noon but was unable to fill his engagements owing to a ruling made by the stewards of the Canadian Racing Associations this morning which brought suspension to Montour for unsatisfactory riding In the meantime Carter left for Toronto with the money and Autumn It is presumed that the stewards will straighten the matter out now that the lad is in Hespess control controlRobert Robert Davies has decided to send his Plaudit Illly Southern Maid to Saratoga to fulfill her engagement In the Futurity On what she has shown In Canada the filly will take a lot of beating Jockey W Knapp will go to Saratoga to ride her herIt It K Watkins will send his horses to Saratoga at the conclusion of the Hamilton meeting and Gallaher Bros will ship to Lexington after the second Windsor meeting meetingS S X Ilolman manager of the King Edward and Dorval tracks in Montreal was a visitor at Hamilton this afternoon He reports that the track at Dorval is practically completed and an effort will be made to give a five or sixday meeting between the close of racing at Blue Bonnets and the opening of the Fall meeting at Woodbine WoodbineAmos Amos Turney came over from Fort Erie this afternoon He reiwrts that Ilorron is convalescent siud doing well The colt lost a lot of flesh during liis sickness and no attempt will be made to train him this year All of the horses in Martin Foleys stable have been sick Lewin being in worse shape Hum any of the others The apprentice rider Fuerst formerlv with the Schorr stable has signed to ride for Roy Martin MartinV V 1C Beal and James Johnston arrived from New York with their horses Jockey Failbrother who formerly rode for the Hamilton turfman Steve Davidson accompanied the Beal stable 1 J McCafferty acting for J S Tyree pur ¬ chased the contract held by J G Wagnon on Joekev Snyder It is understood that the trans ¬ action involved 5000 5000It It was announced today that three steeplechases and a race for gentlemen riders would be run during the Connaught Park meeting at Ottawa the coining fall IT G Bedwell is replenishing his stable He purchased the twoyearold Pat Rutledge from Sam Louis before leaving Windsor He will ship his string to Havre de Grace at the conclusion of the second Windsor meeting
