DOUBLE FOR J L HOLLAND DONALD MACDONALD WINS LONG BEACH HAN DICAP AND GALLOP ALSO SCORES Former Beats Lahore and Two Other Starters in Principal Race of Belmont Park Card Ocean Blue Wins for Woodford Clay New York July 2G The stable of J L Holland was conspicuous today winning the feature event the Long Beach Handicap with Donald Macdonald and taking a twoyearold race with Gallop Both horses were handled in perfect fashion by jockey Johnny Wilson There were only four starters in the handicap R F Carman withdrawing Meridian and trusting his colors to G M Miller while E F Cooney added Guy Fisher The last named might as well have been left In the stable as he was last throughout the race Donald Macdonald and Lahore were the choices for the race and they were the ones to fight it out during the entire jour ¬ ney Wilson lost no time in hustling Donald Mac donald to the front right after the start but Lahore was close to him until the stretch turn although both were under stout restraint Then Donald Macdonald began to draw away and when Butler called on Lahore the latter did not respond In the last furlong however Lahore began to make up ground so that Donald Macdonald had to do his best all the way home to pass the all Important line first by a length G M Miller landed in third place and better handled lie might have made it interest ¬ ing for the other two He moved up with a rush after passing the far turn trot in coming into the stretch he lost much ground i y a wide turn and to make matters worse Nicklans his rider ran him so close to Lahore in the last furlong that he had to he eased up and taken to the inside insideThe The Long Beach Handicap was instituted In 1OS and its brief history is as follows Year Winner AWt Jockey Val Time 190S Old Honesty 4 102 Musgrave 1590147 1590147iniO iniO Fayette 4 HOC H Shilg 1050 145 191 D Macdonald 7 107 J Wilson 15SO 1X2 Not run in 1909 No racing in 1911 and 1912 Woodford Clay and his followers again scored when Ocean Blue was first in the third race although the margin at the end was scant Ocean Blue was hemmed about on the rail until the head of the ptretch was reached where Butwell took her up aBd went to the outside fn the last furlong she closed like a streak and catching Sickle near the finish beat him by half a length In addition to piloting Ocean Blue Butwell also scored with Bunch of Keys so that he divided the riding honors with Wilson WilsonThe The colors of James Butler owner of the Empire City track were seen for the first time this season in the third race in which they were carried by Dartworth DartworthIt It was announced today that there will be thoroughbred racing at the Empire City track next month in connection with the Greater New York Fair and Inhibition Companys fair which is to bo held at that track The amount of money hung up for flat races whill be 2000 each day The dates selected for the running of the races are August 15 1C IS 19 and 20 20During During the coming meetings to be held over the half mile tracks at Dufferin Park and Hillcrest in Toronto the Pinkertons will have charge of the policing of the tracks
