STALLION STAR RUBY IS DESTROYEDt DESTROYEDtLexington Lexington Ky August 8 It was found necessary to destroy James B Haggins famous race horse and sire Star Ruby at Elmcndorf Farm a day or two ago Star Ruby was twentyone years old was foaled iu England being by Hampton out of Orna ¬ ment dam of Sceptre by Bend Or He was pur ¬ chased by the late John Mackey for 5000 when a twoyearold and brought to this country He was trained by Green B Morris and won among other races the Thornton Stakes of four miles at San Francisco FranciscoThe The best of a number of good horses sired by Star Ruby was Africander winner of 101i5 Quite a while ago Star Ruby had a bruise on the head which necessitated the removal of a part of the bone and the insertion of a plate liver afterward there was u nasal discharge which grew gradually worse until the condition of the old horse was so weakened that his destruction was deemed necessary by Dr Robert Graham tho state veterinarian anil by Drs James T Hannon and John Haggard Star Ruby was Insured for 20000 20000Hessian Hessian and Glorlo the latter the property of John Mackeys estate are the only serviceable stal ¬ lions now at Elmendorf Watercress Goldfinch George Kessler and Horatio are virtually retired
