MANY ARRIVALS AT MINERAL SPRINGS Promising Card Provided For Opening of Second Meeting at Porter Today Porter Ind August 20 Following a conference of the management of the Porter track John Hogan if Chicago was yesterday engaged to do the start ¬ ing during the Mineral Springs Jockey Clubs meeting of fifteen days which will begin tomorrow Mr llogaii has had some experience in starting having dispatched the fields at various minor meet Ings He served a long apprenticeship as assistant to starters Holtman ami Dwyer James Milton and Arthur McKnight were also under consideration The former was willing to come here but his terms were considered somewhat high highThere There was plenty of activity at the Mineral Springs course today there being many arrivals Snme of tiie stables that got in came from Windsor The material at hand now and that will be avail ¬ able by Monday next should insure wholesome racing There will be a liberal sprinkling of horses of good class during the present meeting Among those now at the track or on the way to engage in the sport are W C Clancy with eight horses G B Morris with three and G W Scott with twelve in eluding the useful sprinter J II Houghton T S Parkers lot of eight are due tonight They include Mm Upright Russell McGill and others C W Gasser and Earl Linnell will bring eighteen at the close of the Windsor meeting Including Osaple Yinir Harry Lander and Mack B Eubanks EubanksThere There will be an abundance of riding talent at atthe the course including several who have achieved achieveda a fair measure of success at the big courses The list will include Buxton Gross J Mclntyre It Waldron K Small Mondon E Griffin C Grand IMckett Van Dusen Delaby Gould Jensen and andNieol Nieol NieolJockey Jockey Buxton who arrived this morning will be under contract to W C Clancy for the term of the Iorter racing Small will come with the Parker con rigmneiit and Waldron will do most of the riding for Larl Linnell LinnellThe The management of the track has practically been turned over to Hart Dernham The latter an ¬ nounced yesterday that all racing rules will be strictly observed without fear or favor No one who is not in good standing will bo allowed to take imrt In the racing There will be a strict ob ¬ servance of the racing rules We intend to give a real race meeting and will safeguard the sjiort In every particular he said saidThe The card for the opening day holds out the promise of Interesting sport
