NOTES OF THE TURF IN OTHER LANDS. Colin Barrett has accepted a retainer to ride as first jockey for Parkinsons Irish stable next season. A Wballey. the fiat lace jockey, is to 1m married at ?scwmarket on November 25 to Miss Doris Mary Smallwood, daughter of the stud groom to Sir Robert Jardine. Padoue II. has finished her racing career and will join the other broodmares belonging to Mr. John Sanford at the Iliuas de Cheffreville. The negotiations between that owner and Hlldreth, the trainer, have materialized witli regard to the purchase of the IVfe Sti,bk :U i,ais011s Latlitte. London Sporting The decision of the Jockey Club to reverse the verdict they recently arrived at to alxdish assumed names was naturally the subject of general comment, the rescinding of a new rule which had al ready been passed and which merely bad to go through the formality of confirmation, being almost without precedent. London Sportsman. The flat racing season at Longchamps and Chaii-tilly has been summed up by "Le Jockey." The takings at the gate amounted this year to 08,000 as against 93,375 in 1912, 59,725 in 1911 and .4i,u95 in 1910, showing that the upward tendener of public patronage remarked at the end of 1912 has not been continued and that the gate has brought in over 5,000 less. The flat race season in Germany has come to a close and Baron S. A. Oppenheiin heads the winning owners list with a total of 34,725, exclusive of breeders premiums. His best winners have been Csardas, Majestic, Kreigsgoettin and Orchidee II. Messrs. A. and C. Weingberg are second with 17,-120, secured principally by Orello.Nikias, Melba. 1-abella and Emperador. Ilerr R. Haulers stable comes third with 00,500. Groatorex, a son of Carbine and Mrs. Butterwick, is at the head of the list of winning stallions in South Africa this year. Lord Durhams old gelding Osbech, by Common Ahbech. was destroyed at Newmarket the last week in October. Foaled as far back as 1895, Osbech proved a very good servant to his owner during his active career, winning many good races, including the Great Yorkshire Stakes at Doncaster and the Jockey Club Cup. His best year was in 1900, when his six races amounted to the handsome aggregate of 9,050, the Century Stakes of 4,750 at San-down being the principal prize to fall to his share.
