McTaggart is regarded as best suited by a free running horse. II. W. Hoag has been sick at Juarez but is now on the road to recovery. W. R. Engstrom has lieen making one of the biggest books on eastern tracks this fall. The useful sprinter John I. Wakefield has been on the sick list at Juarez with fever, but is now regarded as out of danger. Wade McLemore has two promising yearlings at Juarez in Hay. a brother to Meadow, and Fred T., a brother to Meshach. They recently worked a quarter in 24. The speedy filly Mother Katchani. in the stable of J. F. and H. S. Newman, broke down hopelessly in her left foreleg while working at Juarez recently and will be sent to the Newman farm to be retired to the stud. W. J. Shaughnessys coming two-year-old by Oiseau Silk Hose has been named Silk Bird. This youngster has developed well and is an eligible for the Nursery, the Kings Plate and the Breeders Stakes at Blue Bonnets. Fred Miller relinquished the training of Water Welles at Norfolk because he did not approve of the policy of running the horse, which belongs to his brothers wife, in handicaps. He contended that the horses racing should be confined to selling races for which he could be entered for 00. Bob Levy, the enterprising young man from Texas who manages the affairs of the Jamestown Jockey Club, is elated over the success of the meeting which closed at Norfolk yesterday. It was by far the most successful iu the history of the Jamestown Jockey Club. It took no little perseverance to put racing at Norfolk ou a sound basis, for Mr, Levy had much to contend with in previous seasons. Two thoroughbreds purchased by Samuel Nesbitt, a prominent Montreal horseman, at the recent sales in Kentucky, have arrived at MontreaL One is an unnamed yearling filly by Leonidas Lady Armagh. This filly is of splendid type, being large for a coming two-year-old. The other is the three-year-old filly Jaffa, by Sir Huon Azuccua. Jaffa is in foal to Ben Trovato. It is the intention of Mr. Nes-bitt to use these horses in the show ring exclusively. Perhaps no one better appreciates the present beauty of the Jockey Club Juarez track and the flourishing condition of the city of El Paso than Al KIrby, who is here iu charge of J. B. Respess stable this season. Kirby was here for the first meeting at the Juarez track in 1909-1910 and he could hardly realize that so many changes could come about iu such a short time. He stated when he arrived here the roof was not completed on the grandstand at the track and many of the other parts of the ground were in nn unfinished condition. As to El Paso, the skyscrapers and the big hotel were then but a dream. Kirby thinks now that the Juarez Jockey Club track is the finest race track In the world. El Paso Times.
