ONLY ONE FAVORITE LOSES FIRST CHOICES ALL BUT MAKE CLEAN SWEEP OF PALMETTO PARK CARD. Big Ladies Day Crowd in Attendance and Layers Sustain Heavy Losses Prince Ahmed Finally Breaks Charleston Hoodoo. Charleston. S. C, December 5. The fair sex took advantage of the managements invitation to witness the racing this afternoon at lalinctto Park as the guests or the association, anil the augmented attendance tilled tile spacious grandstand and produced a midsummer air of activity alout the plant. Ideal weather was a factor in the enjoyment of the outing. The racing was wholesome and interesting. The much punished layers were again the victims of a heavy hotting assault and stood another severe inroad on their bankrolls by reason of the success of tivo favorites and a well backed second choice. Not a single one of the thirteen layers doing business in the ring escaped loss. The improved card accounted for a heavier amount of wagering than at any previous time during tills meeting and the talent were naturally in a jubilant mood. After trying unsuccessfully for the past two seasons to win a purse at this track, II. 1. Bedwells Prince Ahmed finally managed to land the purse in the fourth race from a fairly good field of starters. He was considered much the best of his opponents and received stout and confident support at short odds. He won with almost ridiculous ease over Jabot, with Starbottle In third iilace. The llrst and second races, the supposedly poorest numbers on the card, furnished the best contests of the afternoon. The opener brought about a thrilling struggle between Bastante, Pulsation and Stollata, the trio finishing In the order named heads apart. The second nice developed a stirring drive between Voiicia Stroine and Big Dipper. The pair fought it out for the entire length of the stretch and Veneta Strome scored by a narrow margin. Aim Tilly, a previous winner at this meeting, repeated her former success and won handily in the third race. The .smart set backed Sylvcstris stoutly rnwetK, race, hut ber-jcljaiiceih were destroyed when r K. Martin took her back frequently during the race. Ralph Lloyd outstayed .the long shot, Master .Tim, in the lif tli race and the extensively backed Chartier landed third. Tile closing dash was only an exercise gallop for Dr. Waldo Briggs, which led from barrier rise to finish and won as his rider pleased, with Marshon outstaying Napier for second place. There was another big list of arrivals today that Included N. K. Ileal. J. J. OBrien, J. S. Ware, E. C. Lucas and James Boden. Jockey C. Grand, who arrived from Baltimore yesterday, has signed to ride for W. C. Weant and It. Lester during the Charleston meeting. J. W. Iledrlcks mare Miss Jonah is down witli an attack of lung fever. The mare is in a bad way and is not expected to recover. Tecumseh, the colt that A. It. Bressler secured in a trade with George Ilendrie for the two-year-old. Privet Petal, has been tired.
