TWO JOCKEYS IN TROUBLE WALDRON AND KE0GH ARE SUSPENDED BY STEWARDS AT PALMETTO PARK. Ruling Against Former Follows Listless Handling of Dr. Doughtery, One of Days Favorites Several Scores Against Kcogh. Charleston, S. C, December 11. The racing at Palmetto Park this afternoon was witnessed by a big crowd and was overshadowed by rulings from tha board of stewards, composed of K. C. Smith. 0. H. Petttngill and P. M. Burch, indefinitely suspending jockey It. Waldron for an unsatisfactory ride on Dr. Dougherty this afternoon and jockey F. Keogh on account of his handling of Counterpart yesterday, together with other unsatisfactory rides. Waldrons effort on Dr. Dougherty, favorite for the third race today, was decidedly listless and in striking contrast to the good handling he gave Wil-hite aud Dr. Waldo Briggs. winners of the succeeding races. Keoghs suspension came as a direct re-suit of Counterparts failure in the St. Johns Hotel Stakes, won yesterday by Douald Macdonald. Counterpart clearly showed that he should have at least finished second. The "other unsatisfactory rides" he is charged with are probably those on Winning Witch and Counterpart in their performances here. The all-aged handicap at five and a half furlongs that featured todays card resulted in li victory for Wilhlte, which had failed on two former occasions. Some of the crack sprinters at the course contested the race and a stirring struggle was looked for by the spectators, but the running of the race was somewhat marred by a mishap that befell Brigs Brother, causing him to interfere badly with some of the other contenders. Wilhite. the winner, was lucky to meet with trouble on the stretch turn that forced him to go wide and later to avoid Brigs Brother when his breakdown took place. Sir John Johnson was the chief sufferer, but was clearly beaten at the time of the mishap. Brigs Brother was in second place and far in advance of the others when he let down on his front leg a sixteenth from the finish. Dr Waldo Briggs was the only successful favorite. It was his third successive victory during the meeting. Waldron handled him faultlessly and hu gamely withstood the closing rush of Dynamite. Warbler furnished the chief disappointment of the afternoon when Amoret heat him in the opening dash in a hard drive. Amorets showing wa an improvement over his previous ones here and Buxton handled him in vigorous fashion. Polly H. was the supposed good thing for the second race hut third was the best she could do, Young Emblem and Behest leading her at the finish. There w;as a mix-up at the start of this race when the barrier failed to work properly, Tomboy being the chief sufferer by it. The concluding race went to Mar-shon, over Master Jim and Pierre Dumas. After the finish Marshon was bid up from an entered price of 1913.sh00 to and was retained by his owner. There was more betting activity today than on any former occasion during this meeting. George XoVval aud "Billy" Torple were additions to the ranks of the layers. Frank Bain dropped off. leaving thirteen prlccmakers on. Most of them reported winning on the days transactions. The attendance also showed a big increase, probably because of the improved weather. Secretary Nathauson distributed the program book for next weeks races this afternoon. The new pro-grain is marked by numerous selling handicaps, intended to overcome the dodging tactics of some of the owners here and likewise to produce greater equity in the matter of the selling prices that good horses arc entered for. . Jockey J. Mclntyre was an arrival from Chicago this morning. He will ride here as a free lance. Jockey W. Doyle has contracted to ride the horses that Willie Shields Is handling for K. J. McGraw, T. P.. Ryan, P. Gallagher and others here this winter. . , ., , ,, When Brigs Brother broke down in the handicap this afternoon and swerved across to the inner rail in the stretch he was jumped on and one of his tendons was cut. The colt came out of the race in bad sbane and it is doubtful if lie will be seen in public again during this meeting.
