CHEAP PLATERS, ROUTINE RACING. Biggest Crowd of Season at Palmetto Park Because of Ladies Day Halter Men Active. Charleston, S. C, December 12. The second ladies day of the meeting was marked by the largest attendance of the season and gave Palmetto Park i midsummer racing aspect this afternoon. The sveather was again tavorable and the sport interest-ng, though most "of the starters were of decidedly jrillnary calibre. Form was at a discount as a result of the poor quality of the starters and the layers for the first time during the meeting had a profitable experience.. Jblm Marrs, winner of the second race, was the only first choice to succeed, fhe halter brigade Was again active and a couple jf run-ups materialized. The first came when Ancon, running for the first time in the colors of William Walker, won the third race from Chartier, the favorite. E. T. Colton. who has been a victim f the bidders on every occasion that his horses .lave won, resorted to retaliatory measures and bid Ancon up from an entered price of 00 to 000 and got him. The second advance followed Over the Sands victory in the feature race at one milt and a quarter, which he won from Ella Crane and Out-Ian. Entered for 5400. he was raised to 000 and secured by the Bevcrwyck Stable. The twelve layers m the ring reported an exceptionally good volume of business this afternoon and that money is becoming more plentiful daily. Newcomers today included G. W. J. iSlssuH, from Pittsburgh, and E. K. Bradley, from Lexington. The latter will remain here for some time. He reports that his big band of racers are wintering in line style at his Idle Hour- Farm and that he has had several good otters for Bradleys Choice and nlaek Toney, but he intends to hold these two .-racks for racing in his own colors. F. J. Pons experienced more had luck today when his horse Jack Denman succumbed to pneumonia. J. M. Goode today sold the Jilly Mira Dell at private terms to T. I. Miles. The tilly Floral Park, which was reported to have been on the ailing list, has fully recovered and has been working steadily and well during the past week. Knight Deck, owned by Amos Turney, was shipped to Lexington today. In the same car went a yearling colt by Charcot, owned by J. W. May. The injury sustained by Brigs Brother yesterday was not a-i serious as at first supposed and h: probably will be in shape to race again before the close of the meeting. Jack Atkin sent word that he had disposed of his baseball interests in California and would arrive here shortly.
