NOTES OF THE TURF. Fred Taral Is to return to Germany shortly to resume his duties as trainer for Baron Weinberg. Trainer Jack Joyner, who has Mr. Whitneys horses In charge iu England, has a fancy for Sir John Thursbys Kenneymore for next years Derby. This colt, by John oGaunt Crocemn, came out only at the end of the season. He was third In the Middle Park Plate, and won the Dewhurst. The smartest of horsemen may make mistakes, and frequently do. Old Douald Macdonald, son of Sombrero and half-brother of Klnleydale, can prove it. Donald is now within a few weeks of being eight years old, and has won twenty-one races this year, besides being nine times second, and three times third, earning about 5,000 since the first of January. You could have bought or claimed him out of selling races at Fort Erie a few years ago for four or five hnndred dollars, but no one would be foolish enough to take a horse that was on the verge of a breakdown, and not likely ever to run another race. That was what they all said when they passed him by each time he ran, yet never a year has passed since that time in which he was not a frequent winner, and the season just closing was the best of all. Sometimes it might lx wisdom to take a chance. At any rate, it is plain that none of us know it all. Francis Nelson, in Toronto Globe. In consequence of the lack of accommodation the Epsom Grand Stand Association will carry out important alterations to their premises in the near future. A new building to contain five large luncheon rooms the largest 4S feet by 25 feet 9 Inches is to be erected in the yard at the back of the grand stand. This new building will be of brick and four stories high. It Is estimated to cost between 0,000 and 1913.sh0,000 and will lie connected with the graud stand by a bridge. London Sportsman.
