c JOCKEYS RIDING FEES IN AUSTRALIA. The Australian Rules of Racing have been amended in respect of riding fees, and the principal alteration affects losing mounts. As the rules previously read, the losing fee for a ride in a Hat race, where the stake exceeded ,000, was 5. This meant the payment of that sum in every race run by the Australian Jockev Club at Randwick, and I have an idea it led to a little agitation by the New South Wales Breeders. Owners and Trainers Association. Whether this was responsible for the alteration I cannot say, but the highest losing fee on the Hat now provided for is 0: while in connection with a hurdle race or steeplechase the losing fee is where the value of the prize to the winner does not exceed 50. and 5 where it exceeds 50, but does not exceed 00. Previously the rule provided for a fee of 5 in any jumping race where the prize did not exceed 00. Pilot in Sydney Referee.
