FREQUENT WINNERS THAT RACED IN J. L. HOLLANDS NAME b J. L. Holland has been racing horses for many years, but it was reserved for last year to bo the banner one of his career as a turfman. Aside being fortunate in the possession of the remarkable old gelding, Donald Macdonald, he owned several two-year-olds of such demonstrated merit in racing as to seem to assure his stable a continuance of prosperity in the racing of 1014. Of these, Gordon was easily best of the eastern two-year-olds in the early racing of last year, but had to be laid up through the summer and autumn racing and in his few recent starts at Charleston has raced in nothing like his spring form. But Gainer was a -insistently good two-year-old and, after his form was well disclosed, was rated among the top weights in handicaps for horses of his age. In his last race at Laurel, October 17. he was given 125 pounds to 117 on Surprising and ran the latter to a length at live and one-half furlongs in 1:05, a performance of great merit and presaging high rank for him as a three-year-old.
